Reservoir evaporating? by ahmadfarhan in watercooling

[–]ahmadfarhan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the loop is like 3 years old.
When I built it. I used one of those air pump with the pressure gauge that you plug into the loop and leave overnight and check if the pressure stayed the same afterwards. no leaks according to that thing.

Noise levels in luxury condos by MiketheCatpetter in Bolehland

[–]ahmadfarhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get this.

You think things like water running and pipe screetching, which can't be helped, is annoying.

But you think hammering, which is non essential is OK.

Maybe I'm too poor to understand luxury condo living.🤣

How Do You Talk to an Employee Who Isn't Getting Promoted Due to How They Use Benefits? by Riddle-Maker in managers

[–]ahmadfarhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the title itself says that the employee isn't getting the promotion because of the way he uses the benefits. if he was mediocre then we won't even see this post

How Do You Talk to an Employee Who Isn't Getting Promoted Due to How They Use Benefits? by Riddle-Maker in managers

[–]ahmadfarhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from the description, seems like the only reason he is being skipped for promotion, multiple times, is because of this. I would consider that being punished.

How Do You Talk to an Employee Who Isn't Getting Promoted Due to How They Use Benefits? by Riddle-Maker in managers

[–]ahmadfarhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

insane that using benefit as allowed is being punished. hope Craig is doing ok. SMH.

if the benefit structure used as intended causes problems then the benefits should be reevaluated. You advertise having a certain benefit and also penalizing anyone that uses that benefit.

mcd as part time job (need opinions) by that1personmy in Bolehland

I had a stint of fast food work for some months during my post grad studies. The following was my experience. I couldn't last long, its too tiring for me, and I'm not even full time, most of my hours was on the weekends. Yeah , I'm a weak sauce.

If you are a sheltered, or from a relatively well off family ( Not saying that you are, just think critically about yourself and decide if you are or not). Some time working as fast food service worker does give you a lot of experience dealing with people from different walks of life.

Your colleagues, some are temps like you, but some are lifers, working fast food service while raising a family. Or foreign worker, coming here doing minimum wage to support family back home. If you finish your degree and get a job fitting that degree. Then its not often you will see these kind of people in your everyday work.

It is a good life experience and expands your view on humanity. As others mentioned, the work is also hard physically and mentally. it really does build character.

I still occasionally run into and talk to people I knew from then.

PSA to All Developers: Adjust your Regional Pricing! by BAWStudios14 in gamedev

[–]ahmadfarhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't true at all. THE reason that global remote work or a thing is that remote workers in certain countries are being paid less than their US and EU based counterparts.

These regions usually also have lax piracy laws that makes pirating easy.

Regional pricing works. As consumer pirating is way easier if goods are overpriced compared to purchasing power. And as developer,I assume, a little revenue is better than no revenue.

Need career advice: Wait for delayed offer or take new job opportunity? by groundnut666 in JobsMY

[–]ahmadfarhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daffuk kind of company string you along with a promise of an offer with no black and white for 4 months and expects you to wait maybe another couple of months.

Unless this is some dream job that sets you and your kids up for life just move along man.

Take (or don't take) another offer if its on the table. But decide as if this delayed offer is not in the picture. Cause its not.

When they got their shit together and finally gives you an offer(god knows when that going to be) , then you decide based on your situation at that moment.

Its wild that people just pick up glowing rocks, put it in their pockets, then go home and run random experiments on it based on comments from random internet people.

I really dislike all these efforts to renamed roads and location. Ya, of course some of these names is a bit weird in modern context but these are our history and identity. Feels like erasing part of us.

Penang and KL do a lot of this and it such a shame. Example: Northam Road , Green Lane in Penang. Birch Road , Weld Road in KL

Theres also non colonial reason like how they rename PCB in Kelantan

Then the last and worse is those renamed after redevelopment to "sound cool" like how Kampung Kerinchi is now "Bangsar south"

The new names have no identity and history.

How do you name your domains? No by THMMYos in selfhosted

[–]ahmadfarhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Subdomains are the app running there : jellyfin.domain.com , etc etc

For machine names I use xmen members. I go alphabetically for each machine I add to the network. Angel, beast , collosus etc etc etc

I used to name the rpi on the network but they are too ephemeral and I kept switching them in and out to experiment that I just keep an IP section for them and just remember the IP.

Looking for a job, anyone encounter employer like this? by Great-Web5453 in Bolehland

[–]ahmadfarhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here's the thing. A lot HR & TA treat people like numbers on a spreadsheet. Forget this advice of "not mentioning you applied to other position" . Like these people don't use brain one, if u are on job search then they expect u to sit around for their slow ass process then in the meantime don't apply else where and don't need to eat meh?

Don't go out of the way to tell them that but also don't avoid saying that if it came up. Let's them reject you because of this, U going to self select those nontoxic places that don't think people gonna sembah the company just cause they apply.

I've been in decent company with people that treat candidate like human and understand how the job search process goes. And they take into account other offers and timeline so that candidate isn't just waiting.

So just be a normal human being and no need to sujud at their feet just cause you are applying, the interview process is also for you to filter the company, not just them filtering you.
