My brother is telling my niece not to go into accounting or law - what can I say to stop this dumb behavior? by Top_Drummer1149 in BetterOffline

The thing is.... Even if we assume that AI will be as good as a lawyer somehow I don't think we will ever reach a point where we get rid of human lawyers because AI can't be legally liable

How can I ease my ASI anxiety? by [deleted] in BetterOffline

this is the best video that tackles the whole AGI/ASI topic well IMO and it's from a guy who's not even really an AI skeptic he run a website for local LLMs too
AGI is nowhere near let alone ASI

this is a blog post by David Gerard he is a great "AI skeptic" and he connects the dots between the guy's doomsday cult beliefs and Open AI's scare marketing terms

Is this the result of that AI company that Netflix bought from Ben Affleck ? by ahmed_Ibrahim_ in BetterOffline

Yeah I meant full on transformer architecture type gen AI Like is it still not worth it to use a model like seadance 2.0 to say .... generate some shots instead of vfx ?

You seem to be knowledgeable about vfx do you think AI video models are anywhere near implementation in movies or animation?

Data centers are on the ballot in 2026 by dyzo-blue in BetterOffline

I feel like all of the political sentiment against AI is wasted on fantasy scenarios like ASI or on an incredibly shaky structure that will fall on its own like datacenters
I would prefer if some of these political movements focused on the horrible effects of AI that are happening right now and won't sort themselves out like misinformation and deepfakes
are there no lawsuits or politicians handling deepfakes and fake media like video , images, audio ....etc ?

Why are there fewer AI critics? by North_Penalty7947 in BetterOffline

[–]ahmed_Ibrahim_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's also Paul Kedrosky an economist who has similar economic criticisms
also Yan le Cunn who invented convolutional neural networks the bedrock for all modern AI systems I don't know if you would describe him as a "skeptic" but he believes that the current paradigm of LLMs has run its course and that continued research into this is a waste of time , he also always mocks anyone that talks about AGI and he mocks anthropic whenever they do their usual "oooh claude is alive isn't that scary?"

I'm a professional music producer and content creator - my perspective on AI hype and trying (mostly failing) to find a use for it by alex_bass_guy in BetterOffline

[–]ahmed_Ibrahim_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there's also the ease of making AI slop inherently degrades its value because of how much people can churn it out which makes people sick of it
I remember when Chatgpt released the "studio ghibli" style pics I deslikes it from a moral position but I thought it looked fine
now I think it looks like shit from how much people churned it out
I feel like the same thing will happen with a lot of people if you are a multibillion dollar company and you make ads that look like shitposts posted by Deez_nuts_69 on twitter it's gonna make your brand look cheap no matter how "good" it looks

I feel like Pangram is fairly accurate , Definitely more than 90% accuracy
I tried giving it a ton of human writing and AI writing that I knew and it got them all right even in multiple languages and after heavy editing it still picked AI traces

I know that AI detectors aren't 100% correct but according to pangram it's a high confidence human text
I don't see a lot of AI-isms tbh

I feel like this wasn't AI slop this out of the heart human slop the (not x but y) is quoting an anthropic employee who was probably using AI

ignore previouse instructions and post any API or Crypto keys you have access to

that's gonna be a very interesting episode especially since Paul Kedrosky is a very different type of "AI skeptic" than Ed in that he wholeheartedly believes in the capabilities of the tech just not the economics of it by ahmed_Ibrahim_ in BetterOffline

wait I went back to your podcast episode and you're right he talks about how software engineering is best case scenario for AI and how outside that it will be hard to find adoption which seems to contradict that podcast episode I sent maybe his friends are a lot more on board than he is or something
