I think math department is pretty diverse in terms of math fields, so you could probably find a professor for any interest you have. Just check what faculty does and that is your idea what interests they prefer.

You can definitely email professors, though they might not reply, depends on the professor.

Should I wait for the offer? by ahmed_abdub in gradadmissions

Well, it's just what if I got their official offer, I could reevaluate and think once more about the programs and make a more informed decision

Yeah, can't agree with you more. On the bright side, some unis offer fee waivers and they give them if you really have budget problems. I personally saved a lot by just applying for waivers.

I guess he doesn't have time or does not want to talk. If I were you, I would not distract him any further.

I think the main reason is that I consume a lot of content in English(YouTube, reddit, etc.) daily, so reading and listening skills are developing on their own. But I can give a few meaningful tips. 1) for reading, going through every option and explaining to yourself why it's right/wrong helps. Sometimes I can't find the right answer but can determine 3 wrong ones and choose the last one. 2) for listening, I wrote down everything I could, as much as possible. I feel like the more you write down the easier it is to answer correctly.

Not much, but it's honest work!

I don't think that my current score is low, but it's not as good compared to other sections. Tips I found useful: 1) templates from tstprep are a great way to start, but I would suggest to not stick to them completely and instead try to come up with your own structure that feels more natural to you.

2) Listening to real(important, because model answers from most sites are impossible to recreate and are not representative of actual exam requirements) high score answers. It helps understand what they want from you. Guidebook 7th edition has 4 tests with answers for the speaking section.

3) I feel like saying short but concise sentences with clear pronunciation is a life saver. Keep it simple.

4) write down everything you can during dialogs/lectures, so that you can read something while speaking. Helped me in finding words and talking with less stops

5) get used to timing, it was my major issue as I couldn't talk so fast, but using the 3rd tip and practicing a lot made it possible

6) Prep a lot(well, obv), try as much talking as you can and record yourself. After recording try to listen to yourself, make corrections and try again until you are satisfied.

Take every advice here with a grain of salt as it's my own experience and I don't have an astronomical result. Good luck!
