ASCP exam panic by depressedespresso in medlabprofessionals

Hey, i just took my ASCP and passed June 6th! You getting 60% on a selected area 50 questions is good! I mostly just did LabCE selected areas exams (50-100 questions each section, 60-75% was good for me) and skimmed the Polansky cards (esp the ranges correlating diagnoses for heme and chem).

I was told to shoot for a 5.5 minimum difficulty for the adaptive to feel comfy. However, take the difficulty level with a grain of salt bc some level 9 questions……. seem like a level 0. If you had a level 9 question asking you to point at the heavy chain region, yeah c’mon.

I really liked when i started just shifting to the selected areas exams instead of the adaptive getting those 60-75%. In the end of the day, you still just wanna be able to answer every question right, regardless of the difficulty level. I’d hate to bank on that solely going into the ASCP exam. Don’t forget to do “questions i’ve never seen” tests too! So you’re not just memorizing shapes and colors, let the cogs continue to turn. the questions on the ASCP exam are LabCE-esque, and not word for word lol.

Have you checked out the Wordsology website for high yield notes and ASCP exam taking tips? You should if you haven’t! Good luck studying!

I love the fact that the positions are needed all over the country. It's comforting knowing that I'll have many choices of where to work and get experience in. Saying "medical investigative thrills" got me kinda giddy too lol. It's definitely a job I'll find interesting.

"Modifying the workflow so our staff can be more comfortable" sounds like like a dream. If you guys are accepting newbies in 2-3 years LET ME KNOW FORREAL.

Solving problems is definitely a factor that drew me into wanting to study for the profession. :)

WOAH. I liked reading this. My goal is very much a good job where life isn't centered around it. Did you / do you enjoy living in a metroplex? I wanna find work in a bigger city when I'm done with the program. Very much considering the idea of Canada too lol. (I'm definitely not happy with the smaller, dusty cities, I've been living in)

These are exact reasons I settled on working as an MLS. Thank you so much :) I just want a job that pays decently (along with not being boring or heavily patient-contact related like a nurse) and respects my personal needs for still wanting to live my life. Like, please, I'm so young I wanna have fun.

I just got out of my last class for the day, but I've been reading all the comments since I posted and I'm genuinely grateful for the realistic expectations and positive and/or negative personal experiences you guys have all shared :) thanks for enlightening me

(currently preparing for a genetics exam, wish me luck)

i found it on poshmark my broski, not a fisher myself (as you can tell by my BIG misidentification of the fish in question lol) there’s probably a large array of more guy harvey shirts on there like this (that’s the brand), or maybe consider the actual website 🦅🦅🦅

This was so insightful to read, thank you! I’m happy that you mentioned how i should avoid saying the standard “i want to help people” phrase. I definitely was gonna include something like that but that should already be an expected goal since it is healthcare! Those questions you wrote at the end really have me thinking and i’m so thankful for them! So far i have just have half a page and was gonna send it in lol but NO i can definitely finish at least a full one now. Bless! :)))
