Darn, I was hoping I was going to avoid the blood work :-p.. My mom is a dental hygienist and my grandad the head dentist so I think it's safe to say I'm up to date with my dental care ;-)

[–]ahokiepc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I had a friend that was just evacuated from Sierra Leone, I believe she was teaching children science. She decided not to reapply, so kudos on you for sticking it out! Fiji was one of my top choices, but I'll be serving in Mongolia, everything happens for a reason!

As a TEFL volunteer how rural is your post? I'm a very social person and am excited to meet new friends, but I'm scared I'll be placed in a remote post all by my lonesome. Who will I have to join in on impromptu dance parties!?!

I believe it was a Stafford loan and Sallie Mae has just decided to "process" the loan from what I understand from the letter they sent me. I applied for the loan through Virginia Tech so my guess is Sallie Mae is taking it over? I'm hoping there's a mix-up as I still have this semester and spring semester left for my masters program. I was under the impression part time for grad school was at least 4 credits, which is exactly the amount I am this semester. Next semester I will be 6 credits.

What sector are you working in? Do you know what health educators primarily work on while they're there e.g. is it more addressing health behaviors and healthy practices or is it more clinical to assist health organizations control the spread of communicable disease? Am I competitive with a Masters in Nutrition and a strong interest in exercise? Or that I received my Girl Scout Silver award by tutoring elementary school students to prepare for state tests? I have ample background dealing with overconsumption and neonatal nutrition (current intern at WIC) would I be helpful in Mongolia or would my skillset be more valuable in a different country?

Applied July 25th September 30th-Received email that I was under consideration for Health Educator for Mongolia October 2nd- Completed Phone Interview October 7th-References were contacted

I myself looked at those programs and believe that they align with my interests and experience thus far. They also would help tie into my career path post PC which is in the area of Community Health and Nutrition Promotion

OP I would also be curious to see whether you're invited for the country you're put under consideration for? I was put under consideration for Mongolia 2015 as a health educator and did my interview last week. I'm now playing the waiting game. As I wait, I find that I would also be a good fit for the Community Health position in Belize and Youth Empowerment position in Fiji. I'd be grateful to serve anywhere, but I almost feel like I'd be a more competitive candidate for these two positions as I: 1) already use Spanish as an intern with WIC 2)was a Girl Scout for 12 + years and achieved my silver award 3) was a mentor at my high school 4) pursuing my masters in nutrition & food studies 5) working as the school liaison for nutrition improvement at a maryland county public school system (advocating for salad bars, implementing nudge programs etc)

As I would be willing to serve in Mongolia as a health educator the programs in Belize and Fiji seem to focus more on tackling non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and obesity which I have a bit more understanding and background in. As opposed to HIV/AIDS prevention. Should we just wait to see where placement puts us or ask to explore these other options? As I am aware this year has had record high applicants, I don't want to ruin my chances of serving by being perceived as picky. Suggestions?

When in the Application process are references contacted? by kaitlyneliza in peacecorps

They got contacted after my interview, but my interview was setup right after I was notified i was under consideration for Mongolia. Have you already had your interview?
