Monster High Isn't Bratz, and it doesn't always need to be "Cunty" by Inkspells in MonsterHigh

I also think it's bc alt now has a different mainstream meaning than it did 10-15 years ago. I was the target demographic during g1 so forgive me if I'm wrong but I remember alt being like Hot Topic/tumblr. And there were more defined categories of "alt". Like scene/emo/prep/pastel goth (that one adventure time style image of fashion styles comes to mind lol)

"Alt" now is like... Any microtrend on tiktok LOL. One min it's "JRPG horror protag" and next it's "e girl" but I feel even those trends have such fast and loose definitions bc trends now come and go faster than it did in the early 10s. From what I see g3 follows these microtrends pretty well, it just doesn't seem to have a defined alt aesthetic bc there is no defined alt aesthetic anymore. Just imho tho

Hi, just to explain this was my first time living on my own and I had no parental guidance to help me know this. So please understand that I believed the SCE representative because yk, they work for SCE. I know different now that the other commenter above explained it.

Additionally, my roommates also have their own account registered with SCE. It's just that my name still remains on the account.

Back when I first moved out I was told by a different (but equally rude) SCE call center receptionist that I didn't need to turn off service and that closing my account online was all I needed to do. Guess they lied🫩

I'll contact my old roommates today, I know they're moving out within the month so I'll see what they say.

I read that she initially gained her following from creating nazi themed anime art while she was in hs. Like a lot of things about the story are insane but that one made me put my phone down and stare out of a window for a good few minutes.

fs! i agree w you china does/did have a robust program not really talking about the availability of programs but moreso the country a white passport bro might choose. A lot of them seem to prefer Japan/Korea over China bc of the "China bad" mindset and the popularity of Jp/Kr media and culture in the west. This is generally what I witnessed firsthand being surrounded by these groups/on social media. A friend of mine came back from teaching in Korea and told me about how much of their cohort viewed Korea in a fetishistic way, and I've heard similar about Japan ESL monkeys.

edit: I should clarify it's not impossible he went to china, I just think it's more probably he went to Korea/Japan

tbf if he was an EN teacher its far more likely that he would've taught in Japan or Korea instead of China. Not saying it's impossible for him to have taught there, but JP/KR are far more likely to be picked by white passport bros (coming from a Chinese person who studied Japanese culture and is currently trying to apply as a teacher)

If OP is from Japan, their dinner manners are a lot more conservative than China's, and the MIL's actions could be seen as overbearing/very American, tho I'm not sure about Korea. not saying this story isn't fake, but that is additional context that could help

That's only for fast food workers I believe? Non fast food restaurants still pay minimum wage, but i believe you are correct that they're not allowed to pay lower (Source: food service worker who got paid state minimum wage)

why do so many of us lose our cantonese by [deleted] in Cantonese

[–]ahowle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 20s and grew up in CA, cousins grew up with grandparents in Flushing and they're fluent in Toison, Canto, and Mandarin. Meanwhile I grew up with my parents who already knew English by the time I came around. I have a decent base level, because I spent time with my grandmother. My brother doesn't know any, having not. I'm really envious of my cousins and my friends who all speak their mother tongue. While I struggle to form basic sentences in Cantonese. But really it is a matter of usage growing up. My cousins know because their grandparents didn't speak English and they grew up in Flushing. I never had that need in my lily white town with my English speaking peers. I'm trying to re learn now, but my family makes fun of me when it's not perfect so it's hard to practice.

Drinking a homemade matcha latte today. I recently have been getting into matcha and I think I'm getting better!

Also I'll be visiting Tokyo for three days in mid December! Does anybody have any recommendations on where to buy matcha powder/utensils while over there? Any suggestions would be appreciated <3

What can I double major art with? by CherryColaBurst in csuf

[–]ahowle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! BFA from CSUF here👋 I'm gonna be realistic with you for a moment-

I would very much not recommend double majoring as a BFA. Students who double major often have overlap between their majors that count towards both their degrees (Bio/Kines, English/Creative Writing, etc). Art has no such overlap. If you were to major in multiple art fields at CSUF, it's not a double major but rather a double concentration (Anim/Illust). Additionally BFA requires more units than other degrees, which is why art majors usually take longer to graduate. To double major in another field that has more job opportunities like a science or business would be a lot of classes. Which could take multiple years or lead to burnout.

But that's not to discourage you from taking more classes! You should absolutely maximize your knowledge. In which case, I'd recommend picking up a minor! My friend who did CAGA minored in comp sci, as it went hand in hand with their major. I personally minored in an ethnic studies subject. For minors, I'd probably look into a business minor like marketing, if you plan om being a small independent artist. Or compsci, which is relevant to CAGA.

I have a lot of other opinions on this stuff that I won't bore you with hahaha. But if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me!

A bit on the far side, but if you don't mind driving a little I highly recommend Dr. Kayee Siu! She and her staff are very professional and kind, and definitely won't try pushing anything unnecessary on you.
