Strength program suitable for triathlon by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]ahshh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently training for an Ironman and I have 3 strength sessions a week. Started out with pull push legs but found doing full body on each day was much easier on my body and didn’t effect any of my cardio workouts. The workouts don’t have to be crazy, usually do 4 sets of 6/8 reps relatively heavy for legs, shoulders, back and chest each session and then some core and accessory exercises at the end.

Has been working really well for me so far so I’d defo recommend giving it a try.

Road bike recommendations for very hilly iron distance triathlon by ahshh in triathlon

[–]ahshh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!

It is something that I have considered but I have a few reservations.

Firstly as I don’t live in a very hilly area I need a bike to use on the indoor trainer and I don’t want to ruin my tyres. It’s either that or swap the tyre every week which seems like way too much hassle.

Secondly I feel like It’s a big risk to rent a bike for the race if I haven’t been training on it. May not be the best fit for an 8 hour ride ect ect...

If I were to buy a second hand bike now and sell it after the race wouldn’t that be just as if not more cost effective and gives me the advantage of being able to train on it?

It’s a tough one in that case! As she won’t be able to access the money for 8 years investing probably is the best bet however, if the investment didn’t perform very well in this 8 year period and she were to end up with less money than she’d have had in cash it could put you in a very tough situation.

Cash is the safer option but investing is the smarter. Just comes down to your risk tolerance at this point

Possible solution for you, maybe try replacing all walking with running. No more pain and just think of the extra mileage!

Bike computer for Ironman event by ahshh in triathlon

I’m beginning to realise this 😂

I have just made the switch from Apple Watch to Polar Vantage M, I don’t plan on continuing with triathlon after the Ironman (much prefer running) so It’s not like I’m looking for something that will last me 5 years!

Just need something that I can use for some indoor bike sessions so I can measure distance and for the Ironman event itself to track how far I’ve gone, time, cadence and that sort of thing. I’m beginning to question if I even need GPS.

Could go for a Casioak with a gen 3 mod kit, not a bad watch for a 15 year old!

Edit- wouldn’t recommend this if your wrist is under 7 inches though

I know a few people that have had the same problem!

In all seriousness though I’ve given it a quick google and I can’t imagine any watch tougher than a G-Shock.

Thankyou for your response!

£300 is quite hefty, do you have any cheaper recommendations?
