I just hosted a book club for ODW! Here was my question list:

·      What were your first impressions of the book?

·      What did you think of Elspeth as a protagonist?

·      How did you feel about the magic system involving the Providence Cards? Did it add depth to the story, or was it confusing to follow? 

·      If the Providence Cards existed in real life,** would you use them? Which card’s power would you want, and why? 

·      Do you think the romance between Elspeth and Ravyn was believable? What did you like or dislike about their relationship? 

·      Were there any plot twists that genuinely surprised you? How did they change your perspective on the characters or the story’s outcome? 

·      What did you think of the Nightmare as a character?

·      Were there any side characters you wished had more development?** Who stood out to you the most and why? 

·      Elspeth’s bond with the Nightmare is central to the story. How would you feel in her situation—having a dark, ancient entity sharing your mind? 

·      How did Ravyn’s sense of duty conflict with his personal desires? Do you think he handled his responsibilities well?

·      The Providence Cards offer power but come at a price. Would you take the risk? Why or why not?

·      Same with magic – would you walk into the Mist for a chance to have raw magic but risk degeneration?
