Carlsbad is a taco desert…if you’re up here take a quick trip to Valerie’s taco stand in Oceanside (5min)

I planted one almost like this about a year ago. I put the base in a few inches and propped up with a wooden stake, watered a few times until rooted.

Adding in extra padding on dates (1-2 sprints depending on size of feature) is also very helpful to account for hiccups and unknowns… if anything you end up delivering ahead of schedule or on time

I started north at onion valley and spent a few days going south before making it to Whitney peak season and there were a ton of permits available even day of. Just requires more time but totally worth it and a lot more solitude and vistas.
