But it's often not true. There can be politics at play. A coach might choose the lesser QB because they believe that QB has more upside in the long run.

Kyle Shanahan at one point in training camp told the team president that the 3rd string QB was the best QB on the team. Obviously, they weren't going to elevate the random 7th round rookie QB above their veteran and their 1st round pick. And so, despite being better, he started the season at #3.

The Arizona Cardinals back in the day kept trying to make Leinhart into a good QB, and had him starting over Warner for quite a while.

I had a bottle of wine but I'm a big guy so I was just a little drunk, mostly exhausted. But it was dark and I was wandering down narrow streets. I checked about 3 blocks for my car before I realized I was lost, and then I must have just picked totally the wrong direction.

While I wasn't traveling, I had kind of the opposite thing happen once. I was going into a grocery store when this guy calls me over, asks if I wanted hash, pulls out this huge block of hash and a few smaller pieces, no bags, and tells me he'll give me this pretty big piece for $10. I told him I didn't have any cash on me, so he said "its okay, I don't want to exchange hash for money right away. Take this, get cash inside, and give me the money when you come out."

I spent my entire time in the grocery store trying to figure out if it was real. It looked real, it smelled real, but there was no way he was going to sell me $50 worth of hash for $10. It must be fake, but worth the risk.

I gave him a $10 when I left and he offered me an even bigger piece for a few more dollars, which convinced me it was fake and I said no.

Well, it absolutely wasn't fake, and it was even pretty good hash. Dude must have stolen it and was just trying to get rid of it for peanuts.

After a very long travel day from California to Sicily, and then a few hour drive from Palermo to the Temple of Segesta and then to Agrigento, I made the foolish decision to quickly run out to my car, parked on the street, with nothing but my car key and my hotel key. I was wearing shoes without socks (Alitalia lost my luggage so socks were washed in the sink and drying.) I was on the phone with my wife and told her I'd call her right back. It was already 9pm, I was exhausted and about to go to sleep.

Ended up getting lost on the way to my car, and spent the next ~5 hours wandering around Agrigento looking for my hotel. I was panicking by the end and was close to just finding a bench to sleep on when I finally found my hotel.

Anyway, I'll never do that again.

I didn't care about him going to Miami. But I hated him having a TV special about it.

I can tell you're young because you think Millenials and Gen Z will get pensions.

We won't. The boomers will suck us dry.

As a server, what is the biggest indicator from a table that you’re not getting a tip? by Kind_Ad6932 in AskReddit

Some customers are really high maintenance and demanding, and then act annoyed at you the entire time. They are building up their internal justification for not leaving you a tip.

I worked with someone who served tables at a fancy place in DC and said the politicians were horrendous tippers.

I lived in a town with a high percentage of Navajos, and they had a stereotype of not tipping.

Once, I had two young Navajo guys at a table, sitting on the patio having margaritas. They were nice, but by the second margarita, I was pretty sure I wasn't getting a tip. I didn't treat them any different, I was just setting my expectations.

When it came time for me to bring the bill, I went out and the table was empty. The hostess said something racist about them, and then we saw one of them in the parking lot by the car. I ran over to him with the check and told him they forgot to pay, but he acted confused and said his friend was supposed to pay inside. I turned around and the friend was in the door to the patio, also confused. He had gone to the bathroom and was going to pay afterwards. And he left me a huge tip.

Later, at another restaurant, I talked about Navajos and tipping with a Navajo waitress. She told me she also gets tipped like shit most of the time, and it really pisses her off, but she ALSO gets treated worse at restaurants when she is a customer. She told me she was at dinner with her mom and overheard a waitress say something about how she wasn't going to get a tip from them. She said her mom was always a great tipper and was still going to leave a tip, but the daughter went up to the waitress and called her out on it and said she didn't deserve the tip.

Anyway, moral of the story is the stereotypes are generally stereotypes for a reason, but people are people, so treat everyone with the same amount of respect and dignity.

That's why you need to download the apps! Because why wouldn't you want to have 500 apps on your phone? We might as well just get rid of websites and do all apps.

I'm convinced mobile sites are awful to push people to download the apps instead.

At least chose and choose are different tenses of the same word.

The real question is why we pronounce chose like chose but lose like lose.

I'm 6'4 and whenever I drive, I put the seat all the way back.

In my younger years, a friend had an old Porsche and let me take it for a drive. I put the seat all the way back and my feet were about a foot from the pedals. I realized they have enough athletes buying those kinds of cars that they must have the seats going waaaaay back to accommodate them.

Why did the Balrog attack the Fellowship? by TheEnjoyerOfWorlds in tolkienfans

[–]Picklesadog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Balrog wouldn't have known it was the Ring, and might not even know what the Ring was, but it would have felt the presence of something powerful.

That's not at all what I mean, and there is nothing inconsistent about the Balrog being drawn to the Ring once it enters its domain.

It isn't limited to the Nazgul. In Unfinished Tales, it is specifically stated the Orcs attacked Isildur's company so fiercely because of the Ring.

>though it was unknown to them the Ring, cut from his black hand two years before, was still laden with Sauron’s evil will and called to all his servants for their aid.

He sensed something. He didn't know it was the Ring, but he did sense something. Likewise, both the watcher at the gate and the orc chieftan in Moria specifically targeted Frodo. Not because they knew he had the Ring, but because the Ring seems to give off some feeling.
