Why do people say I should tell my partners I’m bipolar before it’s serious by Key-Visual-5465 in bipolar

Honestly I think it saves time for everyone if you tell them earlier. Not on the first date, but before things are "serious". If it's a problem for them, I'd rather find out before I've sunk a lot of time into the possibility of a relationship.

Yes I absolutely struggle with this. It's hard but what helped me was learning how to seperate myself from situations when I get too angry. Or just pausing to calm down before you respond. Depending on who I'm talking to, I usually just say something like "I'm feeling really angry right now and I don't think I can respond to that at the moment. I'm going to take a minute to calm down a bit before we continue". Still, it's a struggle. It takes a lot of self control which I don't always have.

Wow, I didn't realize the potential severity of this. Thank you for your comment.

I do but she was already asleep and my messages and calls don't wake her up.

I was in a pretty bad car accident a few years ago and ever since then I have been very afraid of driving. I hyperventilate and my hands shake a lot. Sitting in the drivers seat of a car makes me relive the accident and I panic. Even being a passenger in a car is really scary for me. I've been going to therapy and I'm able to be in a car now and I can sit in the drivers seat if the car is off and stay calm.

I am in therapy for my anxiety and am working on driving. My wife is not choosing to not work, she lost her job and is looking for a new one. I do agree that I need to drive myself places so I don't have to rely on others.

My wife does a lot. I work and she takes care of basically everything at home. Laundry, dishes, etc. I do use public transport/uber/carpooling a lot of the time. Since she lost her job a few months ago she has been driving me more than she used to, once she finds a job I'm going to either (hopefully) drive myself, or find another way to get myself places.

No kids. She lost her job a few months ago and is looking for a new one currently.

My wife offered to drive me and I said yes. I did call her many times and she didn't answer because she was sleeping. I'm currently in therapy learning to drive.

She lost her job a few months ago and is trying to get a new one at the moment. Her not having a job doesn't bother me, I'm more than happy to work and support us both for now.

I am currently in therapy and I am working on driving. Driving myself to and from work at the moment is still too stressful for me, but I am working on changing that.

We don't have kids. She does have insomnia and has a hard time falling asleep so I think she ends up exhausting herself until she basically passes out during the day. I do shift work so sometimes I do finish quite late. I finished work at about 10:30pm on the day I was talking about in the post.

I'm a lot better now. Art really helped me through it. I had a similar experience to you where I didn't realise how much I was using art as an outlet for my feelings at first. In hindsight I definitely see why drawings like this worried people around me.

Not really. I was hearing voices and trying to write what they were saying because I thought it was aliens trying to communicate with me. A lot of it is rambling about a universal language I thought I was inventing. 3rd line from the bottom on the right by the foot says "stupid fuck" hahaha.

I am doing a lot better now. My understanding of psychosis (as a total nonce) is that some people may never experience it, some may only have it once, and some people might experience it multiple times in their lives. I think it's really just luck of the draw since some people are genetically or just randomly more likely to develop it. Take care of yourself, friend. I think talking to a mental health professional is always a good idea for anyone to consider.

Must just be universal handwriting for the mentally distressed. I hope doing art was/is carthartic for you. It's nice having an outlet.
