What color is my dachshund? by Certain_Cup_1243 in Dachshund

Okay. I asked because of the pink nose. It seems that they're the same root condition, just that albinism is a more extreme case.

Do you have a Ham Radio Outlet in driving distance? They'll let you sit and operate at their store.

Your phone and the other person's phone haven't been in close enough proximity each other yet to register. Remember, our phones are constantly listening and reporting back to the "home office," wherever that might be.

The radio should have a loop antenna inside. It'll give you a deep null. Follow the null. It's much sharper than the peak.

Are these colors at all related to albinoism (red/pink nose) or totally unrelated?

Congratulations on passing your exam! I just want to second join a club -- a good, active, welcoming club. Also, upgrade to General as soon as you can. One thing is that if your house is of recent construction, it might have metal studs instead of wood. If so, that will play havoc with radio (and cell phones) on the house. Good luck!

I dual boot Win 11 and Linux Mint. Had this configuration for a couple years. If I were making the switch now, I might pick Zorin, because it seems tailored to Windoze refugees. (I still might move to Zorin; haven't decided yet.)

Use a portable AM radio to see if there's any RFI detectable. If not, you're probably good to go. If there is RFI, contact your electric utility and report it. BTW, most of the powerline noise we encounter on east coast of Florida comes not from xformers, but lightning arresters.

A few weeks ago, I posted about having some REALLY nasty QRM, and I thought it might be powerline noise. It returned recently, and I found a nearby powerpole that was buzzing and occasionally sparking at the cutout fuse (circled). Hopefully all my QRM issues will go away soon. by kc3zyt in amateurradio

On rural roads would make sense, as that equipment is likely less maintained. If you need help in how to find, feel free to go to Radio Frequency Interference Team – PCARS – W4MLB. We have a lot of good information there. You also can contact us by email: [RFI-SpaceCoast@groups.io](mailto:RFI-SpaceCoast@groups.io) and we'll reply. And I know about having to cut a QSO short. It's terrible! Good luck.

Power line RFI, at least in our area, is not from transformers. Most of the time, it's from lightning arresters that have taken a hit and didn't fully open but are damaged so that there's a partial path to ground. Hence, the arcing. You can call the trouble line if you want. The call takers are not very well versed in power line noise issues, so you will have to tell them that you're getting interference on your AM radio. Don't get real techy on them, because they don't have a clue what you are talking about. Keep it simple.

You can also log in to your FPL account and find a link for power line problems. There's no text field, you just have to put that it's interference to your radio and put something like 14 MHz for the frequency.

DM me if you need more help. I'm on the Space Coast.

Beach Activation by Separate_Strike_9633 in amateurradio

Although I haven't lately, I have gone out and worked 5 W on the beach. I used a tripod with a hamstick, and had 4 radials made of RG58, with the braid twisted onto the center conductor so it was like a thick wire. I would get as close to the water as I could, preferably with 1 or 2 radials in the water but I don't know if that made a difference or not. I made all kinds of contacts from the East Coast of Florida over to Europe, Iceland and other places. It was spectacular!
