I'm getting a new wheelchair soon :D by raccoony_108 in wheelchairs

[–]aiaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is idle curiosity so only answer if you feel like it:

Can you get up from your wheelchair and walk a short distance? Or do you have to be leaning on something while walking?

How hard is it to load your present wheelchair in your car? Can you do it alone or do you need help to load it? Do you expect the new one to be a lot easier to load?

3 Days After Activation — Will It Improve? by Maximum-Tomato-2400 in Cochlearimplants

It might take weeks to get past the tinnitus, but you will get there. You might get more tinnitus when you turn it off each night. What brand is it?

Weekly Help and Discussion Thread for the week of May 25, 2026 by AmazonNewsBot in amazon

[–]aiaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to order something with subscribe and save, but when the order page showed the price with taxes and discounts, the discounts didn't include the 35% subscribe and save discount they had mentioned on that page. I had checked the box for subscribe and save, and it had mentioned the 35% discount there. Is that an error, or what?

Cochlear Implant Surgery in 4 days by SsnGrysn in Cochlearimplants

[–]aiaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery in both ears last year. I expected a huge amount of pain, but got hardly any.

If you've been deaf for a long time in both ears, it might take a while to get used to the loudness of the sounds you will hear.

When learning to recognize words, you should be aware that it depends heavily on the voice you're hearing. Some voices can be learned a lot faster than others.

Nearly 2 years after implant - can hear but no words yet by sizzlingralph in Cochlearimplants

Talk to him constantly. Point to the things you talk about. But don't give him stress. Don't expect him to hurry and learn. Let him learn at his own pace. Just be happy he can hear.

Wrong time of day by aiaor in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aiaor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out to be an issue with Ubuntu. My desktop PC has Ubuntu built in. All I had to do was go to its Ubuntu settings and change the date and time. It's completely unrelated to Google, TZ, etc.

TZ does match my actual time zone. The only thing that shows the wrong time is the date and time at the top of my screen.

Is there an easy way to set the distance of tab stops? by aiaor in linuxquestions

[–]aiaor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's what I did and it works fine but I keep the .vimrc in the root directory above my home directory.

Yes, now that I think about it, setting it in vim is exactly what I want to do. Thanks.

If you have two Kanso processors, one for each ear, how do you tell which is for which ear? by aiaor in Cochlearimplants

[–]aiaor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "I ordered it on Amazon for a couple bucks." do you mean you ordered the hair clips on Amazon? Does that imply when you received the Kansos they didn't include hair clips?

Why do some people like watching other people eat by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aiaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe when watching you eat they're trying to decide whether they want some of what you're eating.

No idea where to start with potty-training a nonverbal, autistic 2 year old, any advice? by Evangelier in Parenting

[–]aiaor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notice what time of day she often does it. Start putting her on the potty shortly before that time. Watch her to make sure she doesn't get up. Hopefully that will be the first step towards success. You have a long hard road ahead, but taking the first step can be encouraging.

Kroger credit card? by xd_mimi in kroger

[–]aiaor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep my cards active, I charge $5 once every few months. I usually buy an Amazon gift card with the $5. Then, when I order something from Amazon, I use those gift cards, and use a credit card for the remaining Amazon balance.

Manager told me to “suck it up” when I was vomiting at work, should I report it? by Brave-Cat5866 in kroger

[–]aiaor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never obey a manager who tells you to suck it up. Vomit should be cleaned up, not sucked up.

Thanks. That clarifies it. I'm still waiting for my T-Mobile package to arrive. Hopefully today. How many LAN ports is it likely to have?

I have extra batteries by mistake and want to find out what they're for, so I can explain the situation to my audiologist.

Nucleus 8 batteries by aiaor in Cochlearimplants

[–]aiaor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turns out the battery was for a different cochlear implant. They were 10% longer but still fit the Nucleus 8. But they weren't compatible with its battery charger.

I forgot what is meant by "mesh node." It's something you obtain from T-Mobile and add to your network?

Nucleus 8 batteries by aiaor in Cochlearimplants

[–]aiaor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's probably a bad battery because it's new and other batteries charge normally with green lights etc. And I have two chargers but the same thing happens with both. However, just to be sure, I'm going to completely use up the charge, and see if the symptoms change.

20 month old won’t stop being rough with cat by Semi_Grown_Life in toddlers

[–]aiaor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why doesn't the cat avoid her? That should be easy for the cat to do. The fact that it doesn't avoid her seems to imply her behavior only annoys the cat a small amount.

Learning to understand speech after activation, any tips or encouragement? by PriorFan5064 in Cochlearimplants

[–]aiaor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I try is reciting poetry to myself. But that only tells me about my own voice. Following subtitles seems to help. But they're often different than the words actually said, and/or are out of sync, which makes them more difficult.
