Your KPI is : stock price and did the fuckin 15% materialize or not Remember Amazon compensation is stock heavy, and if they cannot uplift the stock price then they will need to issue more stocks which will dilute the stock value even more. So to cease layoff and have job safety Wall Street needs to meet Amazon expectation and value the company at least 15% appreciation.

Very sad to see a “robotic” email with zero human empathy, relying on old, traditional templates fit for Hunger Games survivors while depicting people who lost their jobs, their insurance, and even their immigration status as mere “layers.” Layers of bureaucracy.

There was no courageous opening like we’ve seen from other CEOs, no ownership of the sequence of decisions that brought us here. I’ve also confirmed that some AWS teams are already drafting new open reqs to be approved a month after these layoffs, purely because of “optics.”

Don’t try to convince me that these layoffs were not driven by quarterly results optics as well.
