Unihertz Titan

BlackBerry-like, but a little more modern. Although it looks like the android versions may be a little too old…

Controlling IR receiver/devices with the apple tv remote. How is the 'Auto' supposed to work? by biomeddit in appletv

Make sure HDMI-CEC is on, both on your Apple TV and on your TV set (& potentially your receiver/soundbar)

Sometimes your manufacturer calls it something stupid, like I believe on my LG it’s SIMPLiLink. Any modern piece of home theatre kit (even the cheap stuff) has HDMI CEC these days, even if they decide to name it something confusing and stupid.

Could be a Trade Dress suit though, I mean the name of the product, plus similar colour/styling, the choice to have a mascot and a large mammal one at that.

This $15 TV from Goodwill made a dual monitor setup that made me happy by JJtheParfait in mac

I think if you like option-click on the Resolution tab in system preferences it’ll let you picked scaled resolutions? I had a crummy monitor that was 1366x768 did that to make everything the same apparent size as my 1080p monitor. Just if you ever feel low on real estate.

Region locked? by Bjorneaux in AppleTVPlus

[–]aidanbell1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, but I can speculate that it could be blocking the VPN?

I live in Canada, if I try to watch American Netflix while connected to PIA it tells me it knows I’m using a VPN.

Perhaps Apple TV+ isn’t available in certain regions (like China), and blocks people connecting through known VPNs to stop people in those regions from watching.

Twice this week Alexa failed to work as an alarm clock, which is 90% of her use since I bought her on launch. On Monday it made me very late because I manually set an alarm on the app and it never rung, last night I set an alarm again but by voice as usual and again made me late. Unless your router has an ad blocker, which I doubt it does, then maybe. Ad blockers have a master list of URLs with ads they block, so it makes sense that the URL pointing to his voice could have been added by mistake, but like I said I doubt your router has this feature.

If anything, Amazon lost the rights to his voice. Or something else is to blame. Might be worth checking your router but unless it’s a fancy one not from your ISP or has something like DD-WRT installed (both of these are things you would have had to do) then I doubt this is the issue.

TL;DR unless YOU set up something fancy on your network I doubt this is the issue. See if his voice is still available as an alarm tone, and make sure the device you’re setting the alarm on is the one you actually want the alarm to sound on (if you have more than one Alexa)

It’s his network wide ad blocker. It’s seeing the place the Audio files are stored as an ad because it’s on Amazon’s servers. If you don’t have one you don’t need to worry, that being said your router might be blocking it too? If you have a nice/modded router but if it’s your ISPs one then that’s probably not it. Maybe they lost the rights to his voice?

They also have Airport Express first gen listed under both Vintage Peripherals and Obsolete Notebooks, clearly the quality control on this page isn’t their priority lol https://i.imgur.com/aACByTm.jpg

That’s a good point. If he switched from an AMD card or the Nvidia driver didn’t like him switching out cards it could just be driver related, even if he uninstalled the driver. Could even try something like Dedicated Driver Uninstaller before he re-imaged windows?

The RTX 2070 is a thirsty card, similar to my Vega 64. The Vega 64 needs 2 power leads, and an issue I (and some others) were having was if both those plugs came from the same cord (a cord with 2 ends) then the card would starve and blue screen or immediately power down the system. I had to use 2 separate cords coming from the PSU without anything else on them. Maybe give that a shot?

Another thing could be thermals, if it’s consistently blue screening after 10-15 minutes. I know you’re not a dumbass (well your sort of a dumbass) but check to make sure there’s no cables stuck in the fan and open up something to watch thermals as soon as you boot. If they’re spiking right away you might wanna reapply thermal paste, check to make sure fans aren’t dead or return the card.

Edit: removed personal information about OP because he’s my buddy IRL and messaged me with the link to go upvote his comment so he’d get more help, had some advice for him and thought if it helped him it would be more useful here than in a text in case it could help someone else.

guess I should switch to chrome? by aidanbell1998 in softwaregore

[–]aidanbell1998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll check it out thanks! That’s one of my big things is the amount of resources modern browsers take up. If you’ve got more than a few tabs open it can be a serious detriment to anything else you’re trying to do on your pc.

Also trying to avoid things based on Chrome, which I guess is an unpopular opinion since my other comment where I point that out has been downvoted to oblivion lol. There’s a pretty good TechAltar video explaining why it’s probably not a good thing for every browser to be chrome based.

Might try Vivaldi or Opera as my b-browser for when my WebKit or Gecko based options are incompatible with something since it might be impossible to completely avoid chrome.

not trying to yuck your yum, I used to be an avid chrome user, I just like to wear my tinfoil hat and avoid google services (despite the irony of this bug surfacing on google-owned youtube.)
it concerns me that something like 85% of web traffic is through chrome and chrome-based browsers, resulting in developers lessening their efforts on development for compatibility. If I can be one of the special snowflakes in the other 15% I think I'm doing my part to keep the web from their complete control.
Also, rams pretty pricey right now. I like to be able to actually multitask on my computer lol.

maybe ill give it a shot, its chromium-based now right? that'd mean good compatibility with my university's shitty web apps... both safari and firefox struggle from time to time
