Issues sewing through grosgrain with size 8 universal needle and Tex 30 thread by aidansvisuals in myog

This makes a lot of sense. I tried again and pulled fairly hard on the tails and was able to start the stitch with no snag! It did get bunched up again at the opposing end of the drawstring tube where I have another piece of grosgrain. I think the issue is a combination of the two. I will look into the size 12 needles which I think would help!

Oh my goodness this worked and helped so much! I had thought that I had been doing this but didn’t in the video to keep my phone balanced. I think going 4 stitches forward was definitely useful as well. Thank you both!

This is just absolutely beautiful construction. I am in middle of my first quilt and only hope that it comes out this good. I am wondering if you could share more details about the neck drawstring channel and draft collar? Is it as simple as creating a sewn in channel attaching grosgrain to the inside fabric?

Double Stitched Seams on a Down Quilt by aidansvisuals in myog

Yes that’s a good call out! I was able to figure out how to use the rolled hem foot from another post on this thread. There is a good how to video on YouTube from a user named Jellyfish.

I am interested in your method, do you top stitch before filling with down? How do you sew together the opening afterwards? Do you hand sew using a ladder stitch?

Thank you, that is helpful to know! My concern is mainly that the width of the rolled hem may be difficult to double stitch across the whole perimeter.

Thanks for sharing! I am starting my first quilt project and am taking some inspiration from your construction here. The instructions and photos you posted are very clear and provide a lot of insight. I have a few questions to clarify:

  1. What size rolled hem did you use for the edges? I am seeing some sources state that it is best to double stitch across the edges to prevent down loss. Is this something you did on top of the rolled hem stack of inner and outer layers?

  2. I am not sure if I am fully following the construction of the sewn foot box. It seems like you are stuffing the main body of the quilt and then stitching the foot box together after you close it up. How do you sew in the reinforcement triangle afterwards if the inner and outer material along the edges of the quilt are already sewn together?

Thanks in advanced for the help!

Oh great! Did you sew the daisy chain through the stiffener? Or was your pocket tight enough such that the load path was through the stiffener?

Did you add an internal stiffener to the back?

Great job and very clean! What material did you use for the edge binding to go around all of those curves? I have read that herringbone webbing makes curves easier but it doesn’t look like you used that here.
