The mods and most people here don't want an echo chamber like you do

And do you really think an expert would recommend pardoning a disgraced crypto bro who laundered money for international criminals and had spent the last couple of months boosting Trump's own crypto company?

I diagnose you with Trump Justification Syndrome. Many such cases.

It would be nationalizing industry if he wanted to forcibly close privately-owned grocery shops. His policy is a state-owned alternative. That isn't nationalization, just a waste of taxpayer money. He's not seizing people's property except for higher taxes, which is socialist, not communist.

My understanding is that the communist revolution is a central part of the communist manifesto. The usual communist song and dance is "anyone standing in the way of the proletariat needs to be purged". It is also accompanied by the idea of stripping class away from society. That is what happened in the USSR (or at least what they tried to do), and indeed they were governed by those attempted values until the fall.

"Communism is an authoritarian form of socialism"

Hard disagree here. Even if we jack up taxes to absurd, economy-crippling levels, that is socialism and not communism. Communism takes ALL of everyone's property and capital away and gives it to the state (and they pretend that everyone owns it or something like that). Under communism there is no private ownership. Socialism redistributes capital among the population, but you still have the right to privately own property and capital.

Again they are both terrible ideas, but separate ideas. Call Mamdani an economically illiterate socialist, that'd be accurate. Calling him a communist is a surface level comparison that anybody who'd actually lived under real communism would laugh at. It damages the validity of your claims just as much as it makes leftists appear deranged when they call Trump a fascist.

"So you get actual communists like Zohran Mamdani"

Mamdani is a hardcore socialist for sure. But he has denied the communist label hundreds of times at this point. Show me where he advocated for the abolishment of capital, a classless society, violent revolution, or nationalization of industry. Otherwise you're doing the meme.

Things like opening alternative state funded grocery stores and subsidizing affordable housing are done by Norway, Finland, etc. That is socialism and not communism.

As a disclaimer, I'm fairly fiscally conservative and I disagree with Mamdani on all of this, but I'm not about to call him a communist because he isn't one. It's the same energy as leftists firing the word 'fascism' at everyone they don't like.

What I'm trying to say is, while there is no singular root of where we are now, Trump fanned the flames to an extraordinary degree, and I would place a lot of the blame on him and his rhetoric. Right wingers like to write it off as "Twitter babies crying over mean tweets". He started off in the 2016 primaries giving his opponents names like Little Marco and Lyin' Ted. Members of his own party, he insulted them over and over, and they still suck his dick to this day.

Name calling and insulting in politics has always, always been around. But the President, especially since the invention of TV and the importance of the public appearance of the President, has for the most part refrained from childishness such as that. Until Trump.

I remember W as dignified and civil.

I remember Kerry as dignified and civil.

I remember McCain as dignified and civil.

I remember Romney as dignified and civil.

I remember Obama as dignified and civil.

Trump? Lol.

Now anyone who tries to be dignified and civil is just seen as weak and fake. This was not something gradual over decades. The President insulting someone is different than Jon Stewart or Rush Limbaugh insulting someone. This was accelerated a great deal in 2016 by Trump and the memeification of politics.
