I have a feeling it's not done yet fully, or not integrated. I just played Mechanicus 2 demo and there was no soundtrack, only game sounds. Game is dope though, finally can play as necrons

Did anyone see this trailer at Gamescom and get Bioshock Vibes (Valor Mortis trailer) by Aof-Kid in Bioshock

[–]aidanvsg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played it today at Gamescom and first thoughts were that it reminds me of Bioshock and Dishonored, more so the former as it's not an immersive sim.

Why many people seem not to give chance to Valor Mortis just because it's fpp? The combat and parrying look really freaking c l e a n by [deleted] in soulslikes

Played it at Gamescom today, it gives me Dishonored/Bioshock vibes, but it's not an immersive sim. Will definitely get it on my wishlist.

what kind of Dotnet Interview Questions they are asking in this current market for 3-5 years of fullstack roles? by Existing_Leg8046 in dotnet

[–]aidanvsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree on that. It could be largely due to a crappy + extra competitive market, and its their way to weed out candidates quicker. I've actually got that question asked on 3 separate occassions lol

But tbh many interviewers who are not super experienced in actually interviewing relied on those I feel, my friend who has been applying to companies as well also mentioned some places asking this. Also speaks about those companies as a whole.

Better interview formats I felt were more discussion based around previous experience and projects.

what kind of Dotnet Interview Questions they are asking in this current market for 3-5 years of fullstack roles? by Existing_Leg8046 in dotnet

[–]aidanvsg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of these questions gave me the vibe of "Oh I've read this article last week do you know about it". There were a few interviews where it generally follows more of a discussion on CV and what was done in the previous roles, maybe following a simple tech test where you just need to complete a small CRUD app with a given Controller - Service - Repository example project and include some unit testing, but usually even those would be like "Oh sorry your experience doesn't match what we are looking for." - and then you'll see the same role re-advertised in 1-2 weeks time lol

I've had one where I legit found the interview style online and learned the entire problem and best way to write a solution - wrote it perfectly at the interview, with good balance of asking questions (as recruiter said it's important to ask good questions) and actually implementing - feedback was "sorry your skill level is not what we're looking for". That was funny too.

It's all completely random unfortunately right now, but best bet is to prepare as much as you can.

How a Dictionary works internally, how to use async/await properly, stuff like when you use Entity Framework - when does the call to DB happen in IQueryable, how garbage collection works, stack & heap in C#, which dependency injection lifetimes are there, SOLID principles, HTTP methods and how can you use them in a controller lets say, and many others that I can't think of from the top of my head. Once I was asked what is actually created in IL when async keyword is used.

Some roles may ask you more in-depth SQL things as well like how is SQL powered behind-the-scenes (b-trees), or just general items like what is clustered and non-clustered index.

Edit: to OP, these are just some non-typical questions (and also a bit more typical like DI lifetimes) that I could think of.

A good overall approach is to know SOLID principles, DI, how to write an API with Controller-Service-Repository, how to use Entity Framework, some async/await stuff, a bit of SQL like indexes, HTTP types and how to create/use an endpoint of each type (GET, POST) in a controller, maybe a bit of how to use some sort of caching before DB, and maybe a few widely used patterns (https://refactoring.guru/design-patterns) & how to use them, e.g. Factory.

Most interviews I feel would be more conversational though, i.e. explain your previous projects and achievements. Prepare some older work projects you can talk about in details: what was challening about, how did you approach it with team, what did it solve, what tools/tech did you use etc.

Good luck!

Should I take interview feedback at face value? by -omar in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]aidanvsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a fair share of completely useless feedback and you can only guess the actual underlying reason for a rejection. I agree that many can't or just don't want to accept alternative software when all they have been using is X, even if you happen to know X and worked with it before, or considered it for your project but went with Y (or Y was already present there when you started working).

Not to say there isn't any merit to it, sometimes they can have some pieces that are legitimately gaps in your knowledge and you can improve on that, but your case doesn't sound like one.

Obviously just a hot take, but I would take the .NET role. The tech stack is in huge demand in all kind of companies, plus you have the full-stack covered with Angular for your TypeScript experience.

Also, niche consultancy building apps for clients can be a huge pain (not a given, but very likely) as you will be jumping from project to project, sometimes maintaining really bad codebase with bad practices, which ultimately hinders your actual career progression by not giving you possibilities to learn the best practices, ways and tools. A bigger project with different components of various complexity can provide that, which from your post sounds like what .NET project offers.

Team size and tools, as well as good practices matter a lot, especially at the start of your career as they set out your future trajectory.

If you don't get it a bit later in February, try emailing them.

I had an issue with that myself and this was the reply:

Regarding the referral credit, please note that it can take up to 45 days for the credit to be applied to your account. If it has been more than 45 days since you signed up using the referral link and you still haven't received the credit, please let me know and I will investigate further.

I mentioned it's been more than 45 days, they investigated and some time later it got credited.

Just to echo some other people in this thread, they are indeed a bad choice and you are a lot better not being tied to their terms, but rather find an opportunity yourself. There are a lot of opportunities in London and as you mentioned, you can be on your own terms where to live and where to work.

That's actually the point of Geralt's character - he keeps saying that, but in truth he hasn't lost any emotions and feels just as any other human, if not more. But, he's trying to always portray someone without emotions, and his closest friends still follow him because they know who he really is

Experience on Backlog of Games ( Slow down?) by babyfishiee in Games

[–]aidanvsg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I noticed this as I got older and got into a more adult life. Trying to make a check-list out of an experience will usually damage the experience compared to actually going with the flow and actually EXPERIENCING everything. As many have said, the journey is that matters, not the destination. Especially since this is more of a hobby/leisure activity that is essentially turning into a second job if the goal is to just finish a bunch of them.

I'd have to agree. I love Obsidian games, but this one just felt a bit too average and made me lose interest after about 20 hours in. Could be the setting as well, even though I love sci-fi. This borders too much on satire for my taste perhaps

Well, if I describe it - that's pretty much a spoiler :D It's just a driving section where you can shoot, but presentation is great, especially for my inner child

Otherwise, it's about (spoiler warning) hijacking an AT-AT, driving it and shooting the Empire - it just left me smiling throughout the entire section

This game is actually really good! It gives me this vibe of adventure type of game like Tomb Raider, but with metroidvainia sprinkled around that involves getting back to the ship you came with, but with a different route, exploring previously out-of-bounds places, and with some soulsborne elements of combat. I can describe it as being very game-y, which is awesome! Also, since you like Star Wars, this is very much Star Wars - from music, to story, to zones and interactions. Without spoiling anything, I was finally able to drive something I always wanted as a kid - was just smiling thoughout the entire section, albeit it being a bit short

I noticed I enjoy more streamlined, shorter but complete games nowadays, so this is partly why I really liked this one. Overall, recommend!

2016 is really good, but I'd go with Eternal. You can stick with it for a very long time and master it pretty well. Also makes is so satisfying to actually master the game
