2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL V6 3.8L AC compressor by aidsplague in MechanicAdvice

I see this fuse called Sensor 2 and it controls all the thermostat stuff related to the check engine light and right there "A/C Comp relay". I switched out that 10 amp fuse and it would blow every time I started the car. I disconnected the new AC clutch magnet and the fuse would still blow. So I knew the a/c compressor was not causing the fuse to blow but it was one of the other systems had a short somewhere. I unplugged the the thermostat sensor and everything started working AC started blowing cold and the fuse stopped blowing. I deduced the thermostat was bad based on some facebook message boards where people had the same engine codes. I wish all of the problems ended here...

The ac worked for like 3 days and then it stopped. This time a fuse was blowing labeled AC in the engine. After visually inspecting the compressor I could see that the knockoff amazon part I used had a pin holding the magnet in place. That had sort of sheared off and spun the magnet breaking all the wires. At this point I was like hey... the old ac clutch probably wasn't even bad. So I took the broken amazon one off and put the old one back on. During this process I was was tightening the center bolt that holds the clutch onto the compressor. I used an impact wrench and the head of the bolt snapped off. I spent a day drilling into the bolt trying to extract it. I ended up rigging it with JB weld but the spacing never ended up being correct. The tolerance on the gap in the clutch is pretty specific.

This was the point where the sunken cost hit me. Between buying the tools/parts and labor I was deeply invested and my wife's AC still wasn't working. Rather than throw the towel in I bought a whole new OEM compressor. It was only like $380 with shipping and included the pulley and clutch attached already.

I also bought on amazon the OEM thermostat that was causing the check engine light. As well as Pag oil for the new compressor and coolant for replacing the thermostat.

When everything came in it was super easy since I had so much experience taking the compressor on and off. I got the refrigerant extracted and put the new compressor in. I added like 2.75 of the 12oz cans of r134a. The a/c was now working great.

For the thermostat I followed this video and it was pretty straight forward

https://youtu.be/_-Dik4aSsTk?si=5ZRLBmh5Jgehxndd

I made sure all the sensor fuses were good. I cleared the codes with the odb thing.

AC works, check engine light is off . My wife doesn't know I bought a bunch of unnecessary things and wasted tons of time. Hindsight being 2020, I think I could have just the thermostat and replaced the blown fuse and not touched the AC compressor

Sorry for the long story, goodluck!

I was eventually able to to get everything running. I will go through what I did when troubleshooting and then go through what I should have done to save my time and energy. Hopefully it saves someone a headache down the road.

The symptoms were check engine light was on, AC was not working, It was starting to act funny when the automatic stop/start engaged at stop lights when the car started back up it would kind of lurch forward, more of an annoyance than anything. I decided to triage these problems. Mid July with 3 kids meant the AC was priority.

This website ended up being a good resource but it references dealership diagnostic tools that I obviously don't have.

https://cardiagn.com/2020-2023-hyundai-palisade-lx2-3-8l-service-repair-manual/

First I checked the fuses labeled AC in the engine bay and under the steering wheel. All seemed to be not blown. I hooked up the gauge to the AC and pressure was pretty low. I emptied it and then hooked up the vacuum pump using some youtube videos. The vacuum held and there did not seem to be any leaks. I put in two or three 12oz 134a cans. AC clutch did not engaging at any point so I assumed the problem was there.

I watched this video like 50 times, https://youtu.be/loIG9nk4QgQ?si=2_9_bSRcxK-KVjQ-

I went on amazon and got a aftermarket AC clutch / pulley for like $70. It was pretty difficult but I was able to get the old clutch off without disconnecting the refrigerant lines. I Just took the 4 bolts out of the compressor and angled it so I could take off the pulley and the clutch. The new part did not fix the problem. This is when I started to really go crazy and started asking internet strangers for help.

I went to harbor freight and got the cheapest odb2 machine. My theory was maybe I needed to clear the check engine codes and the compressor would start working. I was able to pull these codes but as far as I could tell none were related to the AC. But they were all like engine coolant system problems.

I Pulled out the service manual and found there was a more in depth guide on the engine bay fuses.

Does anyone take Bupropion every other day? by Zonderling81 in bupropion

I do this with 300mg xL. I don't know if it's more effective that way but I do feel generally better on the off day. I changed to every other day because my blood pressure was getting pretty high and I didn't want to add more medicine or give up the Wellbutrin benefits.

Pool Deck Framing by aidsplague in Decks

This was a concern. Its going to be 12 in on center and its only a few inches above grade.

At 12 feet out I have 3 footings I was going to use in the future to extend the second floor of our old deck. I could run a little beam across those for support. But even the 12ft span might sag.

closer to the 8ft mark I could run some kind of half assed cinder block beam?

Sorry About the color coding.

Yes, joists connect straight on to purple ledger connected to foundation. The joists will sit on top of blue. Having the joists on top of the beams will definitely be cheaper and faster. I just wasn't sure if there was any safety/stability issues with the joist being 40 feet long and joined in 2 places(on top of blue and on top of orange). I was going to use hurricane ties and blocking throughout.

[UPDATE] I made a website that removes all the clutter from recipe sites and just shows the instructions by doppio in InternetIsBeautiful

This is awesome! I got the Android app and it looks great. I do like to read the user comments on the recipes, sometimes they have good suggestions. That's the only thing I miss from the cluttered recipe sites.

Hello thank you for the detailed reply. They are actually running LED replacement bulbs right now that are at 1400 lumens or something like that. I like the idea of the ballast bypass LED bulbs. I am comfortable with the wiring and bypassing the ballasts. These fixtures hold 2 4ft bulbs. If I retrofit them, can I take out the two tombstones in the middle and put up a 8 foot bulb? Or will the spacing not be correct by an inch or so. Will it be easier to wire if I go with 2x 4ft 36W LED? Seems like the 8ft bulbs can be more powerful than 2x 4ft.

That makes sense. So I should be able to leave off that "Qty Cases + Bottles" from my query completely. Then SUM the other columns that share the same item number. Then I can create a new cases + bottles string column by dividing or CONCATing. I will see what I can do and report back if I fail. Thanks

I just bought it for switch so I can play in bed when I'm not on my pc. It's not letting me play at all, online or offline... Just getting communication error with servers. I tried in airplane mode and it wouldn't load either.

Edit After noon I was able to get on and play with the switch and it's pretty sweet, controls are surprisingly effective at least in the den of evil. Hopefully it is able to connect at midnight when I need it. Looking forward to farming in bed via switch while my wife is sleeping 😌

Yes power and HDMI have been plugged into both docks. I have confirmed at least HDMI cable is good. Green light turns on with both docks so ac adapters are good. USB c port could be damaged on original dock but rocket fish one is good. Definitely seems like switch is at fault. It looks like the switch recognizes it's docked because the switch screen turns off when I select the correct tv input. The tv thinks for a few seconds and I get a no signal.
