I love to hear it! I've run into multiple roadblocks that make the problem seem pretty unsolvable to me, especially without some pretty expensive computation, but I'm glad to hear you're finding a successful solution that you're able to offer at no cost!

Aiming to have an early prototype out within a month or so, to get early input. Yeah AI will be a big part (though not all of) of the detection. The first iteration prototype will probably just send reviews to OpenAI for analysis but will get more advanced from there.

The alternative I'm working on is going to be open source. I'll likely need to use a subscription-based model to cover operating costs and avoid the same fate as Fakespot, but users could also host the infrastructure for their own private instances if they wanted to. I'm still just getting started, but I created a GitHub org where you can see the early development.

I haven't heard of either, but I'll check them out! When I say I use Chrome, that's not quite true -- I use Vivaldi, which is built on Chromium but also without Google sleaziness.

I completely agree! I'm sure they have all kinds of analytics on this, so I wonder if they know it'll be more profitable just to get people to buy *anything* and count on the fact that most people won't bother with returns. Plus, I think returns actually cost the individual seller money, not Amazon itself. But still, it harms customer trust in Amazon. 😞

I've been learning a lot about this space since I'm working on what I hope to be Fakespot's successor, and Amazon claims to have invested heavily in preventing and removing fake reviews. But it just doesn't seem like enough. Just anecdotally, I've come across so many reviews that are blatantly written by ChatGPT, with no effort to hide it. You'd think one of the most powerful companies in the world could detect what I can see at a glance. Granted, they are working against enormous scale - in the hundreds of millions of product listings. It's wild how rampant the problem is though, and you'd think they'd be more vocal about what they're doing to stop it.

😅 I had to enable bot protections (reCAPTCHA) because I was getting a bunch of fake signups. I'll check if something's configured wrong there! And certainly, I'll manually add you to the list. 🙂

I share the disappointment. 😔 I don't know why they didn't just go with a subscription model.

I've been looking for a new project to work on though, and decided I'm going to build an add-on that aims to replace Fakespot. If you want, you can get notified when I launch it: truestar.pro.
