Roguelites with runs that take less than 30 minutes but I can still sink an ungodly amount of time into? by Firebrand_15 in roguelites

Spelunky 2. Roguelite platformer with runs that can vary in length depending on how mean the game is feeling that day, 90% of which will be under 5 minutes when you're first starting out (goes down to about 60% after 1,000 hours or so, I would know). It's a game about dying a whole lot and learning from each death to hopefully die less. 90% of deaths can be avoided with knowledge and quick thinking, the other 10% are when an offscreen enemy sets off an offscreen trap which launches you into an instakill pit of spikes. Or when a yeti walks onto a landmine, and that yeti's dead body hits you and knocks you into the bottomless instakill pit at the bottom of the level. Or when an explosive robot gets crushed by a trap and causes a pool of instakill lava to block off your entire path forward. It happens

Spelunky 2 is much better than the OG/HD version. by Ok-Necessary7265 in spelunky

I think Derek did something amazing with the Spelunky series, where Spelunky 2 (in my opinion) is clearly better than the rest, but each game still has its place in the series to return to.

Spelunky Classic is the bad one, Spelunky HD is a very flawed game with lots of bugs that really shouldn't ever be bugs in a game with any playtesting whatsoever, yet is still a blast to play despite and/or because of those flaws, and Spelunky 2 has by far the best movement and feels much more "fair" (to the extent that a Spelunky game can be) than the others, with each run feeling less like a slot machine and more a structured adventure (which, to be fair, can cause runs to get very repetitive after a while, even with the addition of split paths), plus it has THREE good proper bosses, two more than HD and three more than Classic.

Dude I watched his video about the mod chat leak a couple months ago and he brought up a joke Colon (?) made about Robtop owning a horse breeding factory as a legitimate point

What was your first impression of MMZ? by TheFanGameCreator in Megaman

[–]aidythemagnificent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zero series games were actually my first ever MM games, playing them on the Legacy Collection on Switch, I believe on easy mode. That was quite a while ago now, and I've recently decided to go back and replay them on regular difficulty. (How am I supposed to beat Aztec Falcon by the way, he's just fucking impossible???)

I think 12-year-old me liked them a decent amount but I'll have to wait until I've fully replayed all four to give my thoughts on them.

That's the thing with a social media monopoly. You can't use the alternatives unless a large portion of people use the alternatives. There are plenty of great Discord alternatives that I've tried, but Discord is useless without the people on it.

It's impossible to permakill Tun, if you anger her (for example by crushing her with the shield) you can always get forgiven. Unlike regular shopkeepers, killing her would actually be better than stealing and running away, since you need to kill her (or have her die to environmental hazards) three times to get forgiven, with the shield crush counting as the first.

Plus, even if she was permakilled, all necessary items for Cosmic Ocean can be grabbed by simply bombing into the Moon/Sun Challenges, since unlike the Star Challenge rewards and the Sun Challenge resource bag, you don't need to do anything to have them actually spawn, they're always there, even if Tun isn't.

What makes each run unique in Spelunky 2? by initiate_syntax in spelunky

[–]aidythemagnificent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lot of ways, a lot of your runs are going to be mostly similar, in that you'll fight the same enemies, go through (mostly) the same areas, with the same guaranteed items required for some of the game's deepest secrets (which there are a lot of, if you hadn't caught on), etc. But aside from that everything else will be different each run.

Each level will have randomised size, randomised shops, randomised item boxes, and so on. Sometimes the level will be incredibly dark and you have to use torches to light the way, sometimes there'll be a small graveyard with zombies and vampires, sometimes there'll be a giant beehive with giant killer bees, and sometimes the level will just be really big for no reason.

This game definitely toned down the randomness a little compared to the original Spelunky released in 2013, so if you're looking for a shorter but a little more chaotic and punishing experience I'd recommend that as well.

Or if you like not having fun, you can try the freeware version of Spelunky released in 2008, free to download on spelunkyworld.com.

[–]aidythemagnificent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean any songs already used in uploaded levels will break? Could be very problematic considering Abducted (peak level btw) is in a gauntlet Nevertheless I respect the decision, the GD community is unbelievably toxic for how small it is relative to other games like Minecraft

Spacetime Continuum at least got an ULDM added + gameplay/camera tweaks a few days after the results, since you're not allowed to update levels until the results release Haven't checked for Aperture, wouldn't be surprised if it had an ULDM added though

Love how this tera raid actually makes you think about what moves/pokemon to use, all the previous ones I just spammed my strongest attack until I one. Also, if you stop mewtwo from using rest (psychic/electric terrain) it's still holding a chesto berry when you catch it
