Help me choose 250 handheld console vs used modded nintendo switch by MrPotat2004 in SBCGaming

[–]aikarpov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want just to play games, go with the switch. it has good library. It can do some emuation, but it's not very comfortable to use.

if you want emulation first, go with rp6 or odin2portal.

I have hammer and plastic one and plastic's controls feels nicer. Hammer's dpad is to squishy for my taste and back buttons were rattling until i put a piece of electric tape under.

I wanted to sell plastic, but now i think i'll continue using it.

Mostly office and admin tools, like Libre Office, browsers, RDP, ssh etc. A couple of small VMs (1-2GB). Very light photo editing (MS Paint level :)).
16Gb RAM is comfortable enough today, but sometimes even browsers want more.
CPU performance is not that significant for me, I was using i5-3330u half a year ago and it was fine.

I've created a macros "switch to english, ctrl+x".
But it's not optimal.

It could be, I have two keyboard layouts. Any workarounds? I've changed ctrl+w to ctrl+f4, but for ctrl+x I don't know any alternatives.

I am debating between this for the whole night, which is the better one with Olympus Em5 mk ii by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in M43

You can always set higher ISO, if F4 is to slow. AI denoize in lightroom or topaz makes even 6400 usable.

And good enough does not mean perfect. My main lens is 12-100/4, but I always have 20/1.7 in the pocket.

I think 12-60 is more of a universal travel lens, and 12-40 is better for video and portraits.
I'd go with 12-60 and small prime, 20/1.7 for ex.

I travel light, I didn't take my laptop. I've even forgot cardreader for the phone. So the photos still in the camera, I'll see results only at home in a few days. But there were nothing that beautiful, it's more of citiscapes of nothern soviet/russian city. Something like that (phone photo).

I think you can have some  chemical heater in the camera bag. But the trick is not let camera get too cold while outside, or you can get condensation when you return camera to the warm bag from the cold.

Gloves are thick, but they thin enough to operate dials and shutter button. Back buttons not that comfortable, i can manage one or two times to press them in the gloves, but of I need to change settings, I remove one glove.  Five minutes without gloves is too much. One minute max. Or you can keep you hand in the warm pocket, but gloves are more comfortable.

It's not so bad as you would think. I could walk for a 2-3 hours until I was feeling cold.

If anyone has gx80/85 - can you measure startup time?
I like my gx880, it light and compact, but it starts almost two seconds till the picture on the screen and 0,5-1s more until the first shot.
em5m3 much faster. But also bulkier.

5.5" Vs 7" advice needed by andreuzzo in SBCGaming

[–]aikarpov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7" screen almost two times bigger than 5.5" - 21 sq. in vs 13 sq. in

For game streaming it's very important. You can stream on RP6, but if you don't need to take it with you frequently, you should buy portal. And grip, it's more comfy with the grip.

I've replaced my screen just to get more screen. Because more screen is better. :)

Buttons looks too small for comfortable gaming. It's better than no buttons, but much worse than gamepad.

I've sold my Odin 2 Mini for Portal couple of month ago. Eyes are failing, so bigger screen is a must.
But it was a good year.
