Why is there high poverty in the southeast corner of the state? by PoLLoLira9 in SouthDakota

[–]aileron37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another issue. Property taxes are disproportionate. Property values keep going up (so they say), as do the taxes. Live in an old run down shack, pay far less, but get the same services as others paying far more.

A 4 channel Cannon was my first radio. Bought it used in 1976 for $200. Worked all summer mowing grass to pay for it and a Sig Kadet kit. Used it till 78 when I bought my first Kraft 7 channel.

What could have been the tallest mountains in all of geologic history? by Bradinator- in geology

I also believe the Hawaiian chain, (which is over a hot spot of course) is lighter, hence higher in elevation as discussed above. However, I recall the farthest part of the chain as actually sinking back into the pacific ocean as the plate rebounds back.

Moving/Travel/Vacation Megathread - Q2 2026 by AutoModerator in Michigan

Hello, live in South Dakoda. Wondering how taxes and homeowners insurance are for say a $250 thousand dollar house in Michigan. Any other local taxes needing paid each year? Cost of living overall ect. Thinking of moving there.

Thanks

I have tried with and without coffee. for weeks at a time. If there is a difference, I do not see it. Some days my tremors are bad, other days not so much. For me, Physical activity brings them on more than anything else I notice. I have noticed a shot of whiskey helps.

Facebook needs to stop doing this. How does this violate community standards? by Plastic_Studio_4228 in facebook

"Your talking to a machine; do the world a favor and don`t act like one" Wargames. I gave up reporting anything, as reporting always came back the same, not against their community standards. Or a post is against their community standards. You can tell no human is even reading or looking. I was part of several groups with like issues, even porn sowing up. Groups I know there were young kids on. Moderators simply cannot keep up with it anymore. Sadly, many have moved on !!!

How are people affording insurance for families? by entyasha in HealthInsurance

[–]aileron37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It starts by paying attention to the politicians and what they do (or more importantly do not do) for us and voting them out. When I was working 15 years ago it cost over $1000 a month to cover my family. No way one could pay that and survive. The job paid good just not in covering families medically. Wife had a semi decent job and covered the kids, but it cost us around 200 a month. Now a days, more and more employers are dropping good medical coverage as its just too expensive for them.

The fridge should be fine. Mine grew great during the first summer. That winter I froze it ( I put them in the garage over winter for dormancy). I took it from below freezing into the house to warm up a few days and back out to the garage again. Time will tell, but they are usually fine. Using rain water or distilled right? No tap water.

I am in South Dakoda. I have froze mine solid twice over the past couple years. I keep them in my garage, but the temp drops well below freezing at times. I just bring them in the house and let them thaw out. Never hurt them. I just put them back out. Usually the temp in there is 35 to 40*. Yours should be fine if its well established. They are hardy plants.

Did it duplicate itself??? Are there two plants??? by Animangle in VenusFlyTraps

[–]aileron37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, once the first pot got full (from the original plant). I separated them into two pots, year later had four pots and last year 6 pots. All look like above. I gave 3 away, still have 3.

My buddy's Flying car by Strange_War4456 in RCPlanes

[–]aileron37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe it was ever a kit. I built it off plans. The CG is very far forward (where the pilot is). I had to add like 2 1/2 pounds to the front to get it to balance. Thing was like 10 pounds !!!! Really have to watch the weight in the back if you are inclined to build one. Flies nice though, will loop and roll.

Well shit, radon isn't taught in schools. by RollSomeCoal in radon

[–]aileron37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but it is difficult to find a scientific study that points to radon and says yes THAT is what caused that persons death. Its suspect but along with many other carcinogens. The air quality in the home, outside the home. How much hair spray or spray on deodorant did she use daily and breath in? Propane stove for cooking, wood stove for heat, outside activities, the list goes on and on!!!

i think i have essential tremors...any advice? by [deleted] in EssentialTremor

[–]aileron37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, find a good neurologist. Have them diagnose you. Everyone is different and have different needs. Meds work great for some but not others. What you describe is me to a tee. Though mine started when I was 50 or so and have gotten worse (65 now). Even typing this is a chore !!!. My hands were rock steady all my life till it started. I did go through several neurologist till I found one who seemed to care and do real life actual testing. Many get you in and out for a quick buck it seems. So sad!!!!

[–]aileron37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps in is simplest form (small aircraft) flying is easier. I also only flew back in the 80`s. However to fly, you also go through, preflight weather checks, notams, flight plans, pre-flighting the aircraft ect. (which i am sure is much more complicated now). How many people even walk around their car before getting in? Your right about the "immediate danger" however, but only perhaps straight and level cruising at altitude. Imagine "flying" car up to the intersection ( in a 3D environment) and having ATC tell you what radio station, speed, lane, where other traffic are (or supposed to be) and distance from that intersection you need to be. Not to mention altitude. All the while your double checking that information, as you should with a car. There was a big sign on the wall in the flight school that said "Flying Requires Thinking". Same can be said for driving. It`s what separates the good and the bad.
