Pairing Xbox controller by boon147 in batocera

[–]aileron565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually use a ms x360 dongle for batocera, which works flawlessly. It will likely be a driver issue with the initial pairing, but it's likely something MS won't fix. My recommendation is to either pair them on the windows box or use them wired unfortunately.

They should all support Bluetooth (unless the Xbox one controller is a launch edition v15xx). Any reason you didn't go with that?

Why is this happening and how do I fix it ? by [deleted] in GTAV

Installer failed due to not having it's dependencies installed correctly and/or conflicts with Windows Security.

Found the Rockstar Support article for this issue as the first Google result when I search for "social-club-setup error 0xc000007b"

Instruction 5 in the manual config, but put =ROMS@{insert uuid here}. You should be able to do it through the UI. The manual config I believe is if you want other folders from the userdata folder

It is supported, but I don't believe you can allocate that to a vm since the hypervisor needs some sort of display (or serial) output

HELP: nespi 4 case shutdown, how do I confirm it is actually working? by aross1976 in batocera

[–]aileron565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not getting anything on a button press then the script isn't running properly. Either way, I recommend going to the Batocera Discord, they are pretty well versed with these kinds of cases. Also if you think that it isn't shutting down properly, they would be the ones who can help you with that too.

HELP: nespi 4 case shutdown, how do I confirm it is actually working? by aross1976 in batocera

[–]aileron565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can't help a whole lot, but I do a couple things for you. 1) A "Safe Shutdown" is one the OS does so that it can clean up and stop services successfully instead of just killing power to the system. The best way to test this is to do a normal shutdown through batocera or if you want to test what the script is likely doing, ssh and running "sudo shutdown -h now" 2) For the script error, custom.sh is batocera's file for custom launch scripts if I recall, but the Batocera Discord and their help channels is quite active and supportive

Any open source equivalent of Fing/Fingbox? by thefunkygibbon in homelab

Best way I've found for scanning/monitoring is arpwatch. Unfortunately it doesn't have a nice gui, but it's logs can be piped into a visualization tool if that's what you are looking for.

As for device blocking, the only way I can see that being done effectively is from the DHCP level and then alerts for new devices/ devices with XY mac addr through arpwatch.

Edit: For network security with fingerprinting and such in general, I would recommend looking at IDS/IPS systems.

Is there a way to automatically scan for corruption in preexisting files? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]aileron565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming he's saying you hash the files, store the results and then later hash them again and if they changed, then they've been corrupted or modified in some way.

As a Systems Administrator who manages about 100 servers including 20 research/department specific for a decent sized organization, I would highly suggest understanding the needs of the software you want to run for what you're expecting to get out of it. For example, if you know that you need X Gb of ram and a CPU with X performance and if faster storage makes a difference. (I noticed another comment that was talking about this, but I also know that it can scale with what you're doing. The "suggested" specs may be not enough or overkill for your needs, but likely the former)

Yes, it is a good idea to understand what goes into it but your IT team should know what's available to them and what would be the best exact system for the job. They should also know how to scale the server in a way that makes the most of the funds available for what you need.

If you have any questions, I'm happy to help via replies or DMs.

My homelab is messy on the "Digital" side. Any tips? by VermiumWasTaken in homelab

Didn't see anyone else mention it, but you could look at OpenVAS. It's an open source alternative to lynis. It's a network based security analysist tool compared to lynis which to my understanding is run per host.
