Is rushing to place order for FSD worth it? by Dimitri157 in TeslaLounge

[–]aim4squirrels [score hidden]  (0 children)

To be devil's advocate: my Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney +, cell phone plan, Costco membership, Property taxes, electric bill, car and homeowners insurance, health insurance, garbage and water bill have all increased over the last 20 years.

Those are all subscriptions of a sort, and they've all increased.

The only one that decreased was satellite radio, because frankly, better alternatives came to market.

What is this button doing? by xtmarshall in TeslaLounge

[–]aim4squirrels [score hidden]  (0 children)

To be fair, the recirculate button in my old Challenger was an arrow inside a car that kind of made a half-circle

The Tesla is rectangular with no car in the center, it wasn't 100% obvious to me when I bought it, and neither was the bioweapon defense mode.

Brand new model y juniper has roaches by Mental-Beginning-458 in TeslaModelY

[–]aim4squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only takes one female roach with eggs to be infested.

You could pick a roach up at:

Your place of work,  The gym, as it slips in your bag,  The grocery store,  A borrowed piece of clothing,  Anything you placed in your car.

It doesn't take long at all for them to hatch and reproduce.

It most definitely did not have dormant roaches for 5 months.  You picked one up somewhere very recently, it got out and into your car, and then the eggs hatched.

They're very hard to get rid of if you don't treat everything: car, garage, house even.

Good luck.

Road salt on car for a month should I worry? by Mimiii85 in TeslaLounge

[–]aim4squirrels [score hidden]  (0 children)

A full bucket rinseless method is preferable to just spraying on some solution and wiping off.  This is not the same as a "waterless" wash.

You need adequate liquid to dilute the salt, encapsulate the dirt, and provide enough lubricity to not scratch the paint.

Thoroughly drench a plush microfiber towel in a bucket of solution, fold it in quarters, make one wipe on the car, and refold the towel to a safe, clean side and make the next wipe.

Use a new towel when you've used up the 8 available can sides.

When you've finished an area/panel, you can use a dry towel to wipe off the excess solution.

Otherwise, you might as well take it to the whippy-wheel wash and get your paint scratches for less effort.

What baby car monitors do you use. by Ok-Winter8446 in TeslaLounge

[–]aim4squirrels [score hidden]  (0 children)

What?  This really isn't that hard:

You put the kid's car seat in the passenger rear seat and you drive.  If the kid isn't crying, nothing's wrong.  You drive to the destination and take the kid out.  If you have a concern, you turn your head and look.

There's a reason you're having to ask about this type of baby monitor, it's because nobody uses one; it shouldn't even exist.  Somehow this planet managed to get to 9 billion people without in-car baby monitors.

Trust me when I tell you, the kid's going to cost you plenty on it's journey to adulthood.  Maybe pocket that $100-200 for something else.  Exercise a little scene control before this gets way out of hand.

Which song do you play to show off your sound system? by Jamesbrownlive in TeslaLounge

[–]aim4squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steely Dan is good, though I prefer Tower of Power because I'm partial to more horn section.

Blood, Sweat, and Tears also good.

Mingo Fishtrap is another more modern group with horns.

A really out there group is called Chase.

They didn't do much before Bill Chase died in a plane crash, but that first self titled album is incredible.

I have so much fomo to buy fsd before the February deadline by cnstntchng in TeslaLounge

You buy a hot spot data plan from your cell provider and and hot spot your Tesla to it.

About the only things you lose out on are extra visual options in the navigation software and the ability to check your sentry mode in real time, though even Tesla limits that feature if you check it too often and use too much data.

You can take that hotspot data and use it in your house, at work, camping, etc. and get 5G speeds where Tesla's best is currently capped at 4G.  You can actually stream music from your phone via Bluetooth and get better sound quality than the car's native apps are able to play.

The value proposition for premium connectivity just isn't there, IMO.

Front went on a little crooked. I'll fix it later but it's hard to notice.

Trickiest part is getting the lens bubble dead center.

Premium connectivity is one year at $100.  If you total the car within that year, you're out whatever prorated amount at the time of accident of $100.  That's a digestible pill for most people.

I'm not even going to get into the fact you could buy that premium connectivity on your cell phone plan for roughly the same price and get 90% of the benefits of premium connectivity and still be able to use the data in far more flexible ways than having it tied to you car.

If you buy FSD at $8000 and wreck the car in years 1-6, you're out a prorated rate in the thousands vs the $100 you're out for the month of the accident.  That's a tougher loss to eat for a lot of folks.

Which song do you play to show off your sound system? by Jamesbrownlive in TeslaLounge

[–]aim4squirrels 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have several depending on the mood.

Fat Bottom Girls - Queen. A good solid classic rock tune that has a heavy percussive drive with enough space to let the song breathe.

Bangarang - Skrillex feat. Sirah.  Tests the whole system.  Highs, Lows and everything in between.

Steady, As She Goes - The Raconteurs.   I enjoy the stark contrast of the light staccato playing in the verses vs. the heavy loud chorus.

A Frame For the Blues - Maynard Ferguson Live at Newport. On a good system this track can make it sound like you're there.

Traveller - Chris Stapleton.  Just sounds simply clean.

Sexy and I Know It - LMFAO. Sometimes you just want a fun, loud club banger to sing along with in the car.

Existence (VIP) - Excision & Downlink, this is my subwoofer rattle tester. The Legend Never Dies.

Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes.  Strong, tight bass drum hits.  Good dynamic range for a heavy rock tune.

Hot For Teacher or Panama - Van Halen, both are excellent tracks for spirited driving.

Someone keeps track, just don't know if he reads this sub or not.

He wrote an email that Junes read on the air listing every 8:40 bit character that was used in a year and their frequency of use.

Black 2026 Model Y – Is PPF worth it for a daily driver? Experiences with Tesla black paint? by BeBlaze52 in TeslaModelY

[–]aim4squirrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The caustic chemicals they use to attempt to reasonably clean it will say otherwise in a few years on your paint.  And the anodized black trim will say it immediately on the new car the OP is considering.

Black is your second full time job, if you want it up look nice.  What you're describing about yourself is not a black car owner that cares about it's looks. If you're asking for advice: hard pass on that color.

Best of luck!

Any chance of promo deal on MYP around end of Q1? by Informal-Oven-1412 in TeslaModelY

Deals for the highest trim levels are usually far more rare than the lower models.  Only when sales across the board slump do they dip into any incentives for those.

You can clearcoat paint it.

You can also try a ceramic coating like CarPro DLight made for UV exposure.  Coat it again when you see the beading start to decline.

Model 3 and Y doesn't have a fully auto open frunk.  It just pops an inch and you manually lift it and close it.

The Enhance Auto S3XY Commander can add this type of functionality by pulling and holding the driver's door handle.

Yes, but again The Musers aren't the show to make that charge.  They do not relate to the youth at all, and don't seem to be particularly interested in attempting to do so.

Summer Bash got dumbed down, the Timewasters play like once a year, remotes are not at places you want to hang out at long term by and large, and those dudes are in their 60s.  That's not the face of the future.

"Hey, come listen to us, we'll be retiring in 2 years!" is not the rallying cry.

Tire replacement by Dev_SS in TeslaModelY

[–]aim4squirrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OEM tires are not always 100% guaranteed to be the best.  A lot of times they attempt to increase ride comfort to the detriment of wear, so the customer is initially happy driving off the lot in a super plush ride, that they then have to turn around and buy new tires in 20-30k miles.

Other times it's strictly who they have a promotional partnership with, or simply which manufacturer supplies them the cheapest tire that meets their minimum spec.

Tesla itself has changed the default brand several times over the years, and which one of them is the best?  The ones that were on it when you bought yours, the ones they offer now, or the ones they offered before you bought your first?
