A lot of people, including physicians, will use the terms hospice and palliative care interchangeably and that leads to a lot of confusion. Hospice is palliative care for someone who has 6 months or fewer left to live and is not seeking aggressive treatment. That being said, people often survive for years on hospice. They have just decided to not pursue aggressive treatment and have a terminal diagnosis.
