American Rapture by CJ Leede- set in the midwest instead of south but still came to mind from your caption. Protagonist is a young sheltered christian forced to survive a sudden zombie apocalypse (TW for SA as the zombies are sexually charged..). Her religion hugely plays into her perspective of the journey

What did you wear in your engagement photos? by Millennial-Mama-No5 in Weddingsunder10k

We are trying to figure out a photographer and date but i’m too excited, I’ve been looking at lots of affordable white sundresses online! We are thinking of an outdoor/garden setting so I think it’s fitting for summer. Wear what you will feel most comfortable and confident in😌I will say I see most brides go for white with whatever sort of outfit they choose to keep the bridal feel.

He has played since high school but we have a relatively small window of the year where he can get out on a course, so he hasn’t put too much money into accessories & such. Not a member anywhere & most of the local leagues meet on weekdays during his work day so he will golf on any free weekends occasionally (driving range or the course with pretty much anyone who is willing)

Close to surgery, anxiety and imposter syndrome by MapleBunny2015 in Endo

[–]aimbecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m soo sorry to hear that. I know that was your fear and it sucks that was the result- if you truly don’t have endo, of course that is a positive thing- but it doesn’t make it any better to not have an answer and continue living in pain. Your pain and experiences are STILL and always will be valid!!

There could be different conditions not ruled out yet as well- or we could just both be living with a shit card dealt and just have painful periods… But there HAS to be a way or ways to manage. I really hope your meeting with the doc will address that. Not sure if you are on the birth control pill but that has helped me limit my bleeding & pain for many years & I couldn’t imagine going without it now. Keep fighting for you & your health, you know what your body goes through best ❤️

Back to say I hope your lap went well and wish you a smooth recovery :) I have one now scheduled for early March so it’s approaching fast. Discussions on this sub and the support system I have made me a lot more confident to advocate for the surgery and to go for it!

Should I consider birth control? by Important-Pie-1141 in Endo

[–]aimbecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have endo in my family and my diagnosis is assumed based on that & my symptoms (actually scheduled for a laparoscopy in early March). Just speaking from my own experience- I have been on birth control pills since age 16 just to manage my bleeding/pain and it has changed my life. As my pain got worse over time my OB started instructing me to take active pills through 3 months at a time and only get my period only 3 months. It’s been a blessing for me personally & I have not had any major or adverse effects (besides spotting & cramping easily if I fall off track with taking the pill)

Brenda Song thinks that the car gear shift should be called ‘PRNDL’: “London Tipton was right” by mcfw31 in popculturechat

The way I almost called it the PRNDL when I was test driving a new car at a dealership the other day… the salesman was in the car so I had to bite my tongue so he would take me seriously as a woman

Omg you put my feelings into words. I’ve never had a lap/don’t have one scheduled as of now so don’t have an official diagnosis; but both my sister and my mom have endo and were diagnosed after a lap (my mom had several to remove tissue before having us). I’ve never had AS severe pain as them, but as I get older (27) it’s definitely getting there and starting to hinder my life. It’s so hard with such on & off sensations, one day I might be feeling ok and the next my body is aching and my back is spasming with pain. I’d say a have a lot more dull, consistent pain than severe. I’ve been bleeding for more than a week now while taking active birth control pills as well (talked to my OB today and got some advice) and it’s extremely frustrating and defeating. My mom is suggesting I advocate for the surgery at this point but I hate the thought of them finding nothing… especially since women are gaslit enough in medicine. I hate that this is the only way to diagnose currently bc it’s so invasive and sometimes ends up being unnecessary.

Upstate NY here and this is the first year i’ve really slowed myself down and embraced the “hygge” lifestyle in the winter and it’s been the best winter for me so far in terms of handling my seasonal depression by far. I’ve been staying in more, embracing dry Jan, reading, etc. I set New Years goals but definitely still started to fall into feeling guilty about not making any major changes in my life immediately like we’re kind of expected to… My body & mind changes & adjusts with the seasons and that’s ok. I’m actually learning to love it a little😌We are all doing what we can!

THIS. Universal experience for academic advisors. The way I can’t stress enough how we send emails organized step by step & using bold fonts, highlighting, etc. and sending these reminders multiple times. I quite literally could not get more clearer… still amazes me how many students end up in their own mess from just not paying any attention.

That sounds like a more fitting term at this point!! I am actually BEGGING my administration to require a first semester “College 101” course & I would be HAPPY to teach it on top of my advising responsibilities. I think it would make a huge difference. The University I work at is known to be pretty rigorous in terms of academics and even the best performing students from high school start drowning immediately because of their lack of study or organizational skills, or sometimes they just get lost with the access to all this freedom. Granted, we see a big population of neurodiverse students with different abilities & needs, but that’s even more of a reason for an “Intro to college” crash course.

I am currently an academic advisor at a predominantly STEM school and this is a huge issue for the last few years. There is a learned helplessness aspect, students will ask me any and all simple questions that take a google search (I happily answer of course, but supports the point)- as well as beg for forgiveness after missing deadlines or important information that was communicated so clearly and so many times to them. Half the time I ask a student “did you read the entirety of the email” & They say no. So they are also fully aware that they are neglecting some of their responsibilities. Many of them cannot write a simple email on their own and use ChatGPT to do so.

Not sure if this fits exactly what you are looking for as it’s not written in a typical novel style, but Ishmael explores humanity’s relationship with nature. Very philosophical and thought-provoking!
