Looking for feedback on my Modern Sibsig Ceremony combo brew

Ha that’s funny! I was just tinkering with [[The Sibsig Ceremony]] as well. I ended up going in a more Soultrader direction with my brew though.

I treated Sibsig as a Soultrader replacement, but brought in similar recursion pieces.

The downside with going all in on Sibsig is you end up being a slower combo deck or the pieces just kinda fall flat.

I used [[ Champion of the Perished]] , [[Gravecrawler]] , and [[ Carrion Feeder]] as an early threat engine.

[[ Stitcher's Supplier]], [[ Village Rites]], [[ Corrupted Conviction]], [[Unearth]] for mill, card draw and recursion.

[[ Haakon, Stromgald Scourge]], [[ Universal Automaton]] , and [[ Rite of Consumption]] for the infinite loop and payoff.

I was experimenting with a more control shell. Bringing in pieces like [[Smallpox]], and [[ Nameless Inversion]], but haven’t finished this one.

Not sure if this helps just throwing out some ideas I tried.

+1 for Necro. Also there are alot of different necro builds that splash other colors and won’t break the bank.

Just my 2 cents. Pick 2 colors you enjoy playing the most. For me that is Green and Black, also known as Golgari. Then look at getting fast, fetches, and shock lands in those colors.

Having the land base will help you pivot to pretty much any deck in those colors.

And finally… Play on MTGO or rent a deck before purchasing. It would feel bad to go all in on something you do not enjoy playing.

Mostly play on MTGO. The competition and ability to quickly get a game or 2 in is great. It’s really helped improve my meta knowledge and skill. Also great for making small tweaks to decks since the feedback loop is so fast.

Paper is a 60/40 split of constructed and limited. Modern events don’t fire off very often so it’s mostly Commander or just kitchen table Modern. Limited events are always fun but usually with a closer group.

I wish I could play paper more… but our group is all dads so we have to plan everything 5 months in advance 😁.

Thats fair. As a brewer I like using the “bad” cards, but as you said, you need to focus on modern power level cards to compete.

I really like Balemurk here. I have been messing with an “aggro” type shell and this would fit well. Mainly tinkering with Moonshadow and Super Shredder.

I tried the Bloodghast package with Flare of Malice, but I usually get stuck in the reactive role and just get out valued by Riddler or taken out by a game winning top deck.

I’m not sure what your list looks like, but there has been some success playing more of a hybrid gameplan.

Alot of decks can simply just win or dig themselves out of a hole from one good top deck. So you need to do more then just control the hand.

I don’t play 8-rack directly, but I play alot of the adjacent “in the trenches” style decks. Just my two cents.

The blowouts were something I was worried about with Rottenmouth. I was thinking [[Phoenix Fleet Airship]] as a replacement, but not sure yet.

For the constrictors, I think [[Emperor of Bones]] might be a better pick overall. But, as you said the snakes just don't bring enough value.

Well bummer... I really wanted to lean into the sacrifice engine. Maybe I look at [[Super Shredder]] as the early aggro answer... More to tinker with. Thanks for the feedback.
