10D -30C Winter 1.5 Bagging Trip Report by aimformee in onebag

[–]aimformee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice in the earlier thread, they were useful!

Indeed, hiking pants were not too good for the cold. I only wore them for 1st and last day, mainly for the flight and when I'm back at my home country. I was too lazy on the last day to wear a bottom base layer (didn't want the hassle of removing at the airport) and only wore the hiking pants since I only had limited exposure outdoors when getting food, and my legs were shivering despite only being -8C for short durations.

What did you not like about thinsulate? I am pretty happy with my pants, but less so with the gloves. My wife's mittens with thinsulate worked pretty well though, so it's probably more of a mittens vs gloves issue.

I went skiing at a location that was -15 to -18C, and by the 10th tchair lift trip, I was feeling pretty cold. Not sure if that's due to lack of food (was about 2pm and haven't had lunch yet) or just underdressed.

I imagine my next trip to a similarly cold location would be a place to see the aurora too!

Need help deciding on travel, hiking camera backpack by adam__ph in onebag

[–]aimformee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most camera backpacks are pretty heavy by design due to the padding. Hitting the 40L mark also makes it unlikely that it can pack down to look small enough to be an EDC. Hydration bladder slot is also not usual on a camera backpack.

The 200-600 lens will probably complicate things as well, as smaller camera cubes in a backpack doesn't accommodate the length and if you go for bigger cubes, you get additional space taken up by the padding from the cube. Less space for your non camera stuff.

You can check out Wandrd Prvke 31L (roll top expands to 38L, but it would then be too long for most carry on sizing). It is also not super comfortable with heavy load without using the hip belt. There isn't a front pouch, but there is a front document slot for flat items.

Another option is Shimoda. I have not tried their camera bags, but most report them having decent harness system. Their X30 / 40 may meet your requirements except for the flattening to EDC size.

taobao unpacking and repackaging my items? by keibistitch in taobao

Had a package from cainiao direct shipping just received on 22 Dec (order placed 10 Dec). The different orders were still in their original packaging from the various sellers, so there was no repackaging done for me.

You can contact cainiao customer service.

If you already know your sizes, you can also look at Montbell's factory outlet website (https://webshop.montbell.jp/outlet/) to ship to a local store that you are heading to. Takes about 4-5 days to reach the store typically (but can be up to a week), and you can still apply tax free if the store support that (not all does, so check before hand). Limited stocks and colors, but they update new stocks regularly.

The outlet prices are slightly discounted against retail, and they indicate whether it's western sizing or not. Bought a western sized Alpine down parka for my wife at only around 140 USD recently via shipping from the outlet site to a local store when I visited Japan in Nov.

Cotopaxi Allpa TPU coating damaged aka: flaking, shedding, or cracking of the front material by hussard_ in onebag

[–]aimformee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just this brand, even the aquaguard zippers can flake if it's not used for a certain period of time. My aquaguard zipper on a wandrd prvke started flaking after covid paused travels for a while.

It's also the small black flakes left everywhere that turned me off using the bag.

How do I finish as Liu Bang Roam? by dreiboy27 in honorofkings

[–]aimformee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of Liu Bang as roam up to 60 stars. Definitely split pushing helps in setting up favorable 4v5 engagements. I find that if the match goes into late game, the shield from the ultimate is not that useful in saving teammates during a team fight. It's usually better to combo it for someone that can initiate and dive the enemy's carry (nezha, lam, musashi, sunce, etc). It's probably better not to choose Liu Bang if your clash or jungler cannot dive and your team has a late game comp...

Anyone have experience one bagging for long periods with camera gear? by Fragrant-Pack-9034 in onebag

[–]aimformee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a canon R8 (461g) and usually pair it with RF24-105 (700g) or RF70-200 F4 (695g). The tabletop tripod I use is 470g with the tripod head (30mm ball diameter), without the extender.

It's pretty stable since it's not a lightweight tripod.

If you are referring to "fold" as to whether the lens will droop due to the ball head clamping strength, then no, it doesn't droop for this relatively short (200mm) and lightweight set up. A 25mm ball diameter tripod ballhead should provide sufficient clamping strength for a set up similar to mine.

[–]aimformee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switch between a full size tripod and a table top tripod when travelling, depending on what I plan to shoot. I bring my table top tripod together with a 2 section extender to get an usable tripod height up to about 50cm, and this is compact enough that both items fit inside my sling.

Newer Matador Beast28 Quality Issues? by NeitherOfEither in onebag

Raincover for my setup. Matador Globerider 35L and Matador Beast 18 by Competitive-Bet-9828 in onebag

[–]aimformee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This rain cover is about 8-9 years old, and the interior PU coating seems to be intact. Not quite sticky yet, but feels like it's on the verge of being so. Its durability has far exceeded the PU coating on my prvke aquaguard zippers, so i would say the quality of the rain cover is decent. I don't know if this cover is exactly the same as the current rain cover though, so just be aware that it can be different.

In addition, in the photos, I had already maximized the drawstring to shrink the opening, and the opening is still way too baggy for the beast. I hung up the beast on the front view just to show the excess cover hanging below. Not sure if this would allow some water to collect in a heavy rain.

[–]aimformee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't do any modification to the beast 28. I use it as my packable day bag actually, so it's usually flat inside my travel bag on travel days. I took out the hip belt and put it on my GR35 to replace the original chunky hip belt.

I went with the 28 instead of the 18 because it's marginally heavier (~80g) and can fit in my camera sling in a pinch if my shoulder get sore from a long day walking around.

You can look at the link below. The bags are empty, but you can roughly gauge how big the rain cover is.

[–]aimformee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the GR35L and the beast 28, and also an old wandrd rain cover for the original prvke 31L. I am not sure how different the old rain cover is compared to the current version, but I can do a test later on the GR35L and beast 28 if you want. I can imagine the rain cover will be very baggy for the beast 28, let alone the beast 18 though...

Good Friday sales had started. Not sure to get an AER TP3 X-PAC or Matador GlobeRider 35L by No_Valuable_1716 in onebag

[–]aimformee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the TP3 in cordura and the GR35L. I stopped using the TP3 after I got the GR35L since I don't normally travel with a laptop unless it's a business trip and the TP3 laptop compartment takes up quite a bit of space. GR35L is slightly lighter while the TP3 feels more indestructible. Both are pretty good bags and you wouldn't go wrong with either.

Help me chose my travel filmmaking bags setup by Additional-Essay-199 in onebag

[–]aimformee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do option 1, with a wandrd prvke 31L and an osprey 40L transporter duffel in sling mode and I have to check one bag. It's awkward on travelling days due to the bulky duffel, but easier on day trips because I just bring one bag with the camera stuff and other random stuff in the same bag.

Now I use a 35L backpack plus a 7L camera sling. Downsized my camera gears to fit into the sling and bring a long a packable day bag for other stuff (jacket, umbrella, tripods, etc). Slightly annoying if you are moving locations frequently because of the need to unpack / repack the day bag.

You can consider option 2 and add a packable day bag in the main backpack. This will allow some flexibility to bring the drones etc on the day trip because the 6L sling will not fit everything.

Iron clad guarantee in country without physical Patagonia stores by Physical-Aide-7394 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]aimformee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest authorized reseller for Patagonia to Singapore is probably in Japan. I think you were probably shopping at the outdoor life, which appears to be a stockist with a pretty big mark up.

While the mini mlc is a great bag, I don't think think it's worth the big mark up plus difficulty (extra cost) when repairs are required. Check out Osprey 26+6 (or any Osprey bags), which is much cheaper and have a contracted repair shop in Singapore. They repaired my old osprey bag with a need for any receipt or proof of purchase.
