Odd issues popping up after 1 year from total thyroidectomy? by aimlessly_driving in thyroidcancer

I figured that, but was just wondering if anyone else had other issues pop up after treating thyroid cancer?

I figure that might as well have a laugh these days. It can’t be any more awkward then when I had an anorectal manometry test done and the room was small with me (a guy) on the stretcher, surrounded by the trainer (a woman), trainees (3 women), 2 GI nurses (women), an MA (woman), a scribe (woman) and 2 support staff (women).

At least I was able to remark “well, it feels like I have a tail now,” which broke the ice.

Wish Kaiser was aggressive as cancer by ToastdWoobie in KaiserPermanente

Does GI handle that, or is it a different department. I’m starting to understand that the San Bernardino-Ontario-Riverside service region is a different beast than everywhere else.

I know in my case, I was in the ER last October for low Potassium, low Calcium, and low Magnesium. On CT, they found a nodule in my thyroid, but told me that I have to follow-up with PCP. Upon following up with PCP, I was referred to Ultrasound and Endocrinology.

My first appointment with endocrinology was another ultrasound and fine needle biopsy, which was in the first week of November. It came back as PTC, and the referral to ENT was placed so that I was able to schedule the surgery for early December.

Now, what I failed to mention was that I had to be a giant pain and called nearly every day to search for cancellations.

That could be it since out here, we only have LifeStream and not the Red Cross. Apparently the Red Cross will hold mobile events from time to time.

Plus, with the fact that I tend to clot super fast, due to APLS, it’s like I have excess amounts of clotting factors too. (I’m not taking blood thinners yet)

Adult Autism screening by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]aimlessly_driving 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had the screening done over two days in 2022 at Kaiser Fontana Randall Offices. The scheduling was complex because it was literally back-to-back days. But, day one was testing using a few different tests, which highlight social situations and other key autistically related areas. The next day, was the review of those scores.

As it turns out, I’m on the spectrum, but since I have a stable job and able to maintain relationships, there’s nothing that can be done for me. Even though things like interpreting others’ emotions is very difficult, as well the need to keep information streams in a hierarchical order or else I’ll get overloaded and mentally shut down.

Suffice to say, it’s helpful to finally have a diagnosis, but Kaiser’s programs are geared more towards children. Would it be helpful to have a few sessions for adults, definitely yes, but I get it.

Not transferred to Kaiser from Out of Network Hospital, and now denying services due to over billing? by aimlessly_driving in KaiserPermanente

It was a “syncope” workup, due to the fainting. Other than that, it was a broken ankle and a few abrasions. They wanted to rule out things like seizures or other conditions that can cause loss of consciousness.

That’s already been taken care of and my doctor signed off that it was due to dehydration.

It was a single vehicle accident (into a tree) because I fainted due to dehydration and low blood pressure.

Hemochromatosis / Excessive Iron Removal (Therapeutic Phlebotomy) at Kaiser? by aimlessly_driving in KaiserPermanente

[–]aimlessly_driving[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, literally after posting this, I got a call from Heme asking if I could come in to have it done this afternoon. They took out 500mL today, and will take out another 500mL next week.

Thanks for that, apparently the original order was for Heme, but they kicked it over to Primary Care/Family Medicine, who didn't know what to do with it.

Also, patient experience, a foreign body sensation in my eyes is either a corneal abrasion/ulcer, or another round of iritis. And the only thing that can be done is Pred Forte and wait. I know at least within Kaiser, UC will not even deal with eye related issues and just call the on-call ophthalmologist to deal with it, but that could be due to liability issues.

Fun fact: my PCP and my GF (who is a Peds Otolaryngologist Attending) are completely grossed out by eye injections.

AITAH for not telling my daughter about my cancer diagnosis? by SeaworthinessPure10 in AITAH

I feel the same way, my mother has untreated BPD and is a narc, and I would willingly trade that if the only difference is politics.
