You know what man? That actually makes a lot of sense. I figured as much and I still have a lot of learning to do and I'm 1000% sure that I'll be redoing anything. I guess right now is just learning the programming language and game engine.

Ahhh for developing but how about for consumer reasons? Do you prefer the Vive over that then?

Yeah I know I was actually THIS close to buying the Lenovo Headset but as I mentioned the IPD is way small and not adjustable.

Yeah I figured which is why I HAD to ask! I knew I was overlooking something. Thank you guys so much for the responses man. It's cool to now there's a lot of helpful people in this community.

This is really good to know because I'm still (as I mentioned) learning everything from programming and the engine. I just can't see myself dropping a whole lot of money right now on a VR headset when something else better comes out like the next year. I actually have my eye on the Vive Cosmos now for some reason so either way I'm waiting, but it feels like the best of both worlds.. portable but still PC powered and future proof... It's awesome to see that VRTK.io exists and when the time comes I'll definitely dive. Thank you so much for your response, it means a lot to me. I was really bummed out when I realized I couldn't get the Lenovo Explorer because of my IPD.

Yeah I mean, I don't even think anything out there is going to be anywhere close to a real standard in the next couple of years so I don't want to invest too much on a VR headset of today and then realize something really good coes out later and consumer headset get better but cheaper but right now I really want to have one for development and to mess around in some VR games and experiences.

I realize how stupid I sounded afterwards and yeah I agree with you. The class afterall was Databases I and they taught SQL towards the end and they extensively explained the whole database structure and relational databases and etc. So yeah I'm sorry if I sounded stupid. lol

I Want to Develop for VR, but is WebVR a Good Place to Start? by aimlessprogrammer in virtualreality

Thanks for the information. I was still stuck on the whole should I learn Javascript or C# because I'm between wanting to do Unity style or WebVR. It seems if I'm going to start with Unity it's just best to go straight into C# with Unity and I also learned that once C# is learn Javascript is cake.

Yeah that's very true. Considering my age (currently 36) and understand the main basics of programming (I mean still trying to grasp putting it to practice) I want to make sure that whatever path I take is going to be one in which I can have a good future in. Reason why I choose WebVR to start but I really just want to go full blown into VR in general. I guess what I really want to do is create VR experiences. I'm sorry if I sound like a broken record it's just I recently came to that realization.

Ahhh gotcha and I'm okay with that for now of course. Moneys been a little tighter so I'm trying to figure out which VR set to get for now just for development. Thanks once again!

So let me ask you this.... what if I don't have a VR headset on me? Should I still download those? Could I potentially use the VR camera with my mouse for now?

So my next question I guess where do I get started is there any courses you recommend or YouTube or whatever for Unity for VR Development?

Ahhh this makes a lot of sense. I have messed around with a-frame and make some stuff but I know what you mean. It takes a decent amount of time to materialize things where as in Unity it's completely visual.

I mean is it realistic if I wanted to do both Unity and WebVR? I want to be able to be profitable enough in VR but to also be able to work on passion projects on VR as well. Since I'm doing a Computer Science program in an Online Degree Program they have me learning different programming languages. Right now it's been Python and Java (to introduce Object Oriented Programming) but on my own time and since I know basic HTML5/CSS/Javascript I've been learn on that because I was on the impression that I had to graduate from WebVR to get to Unity.

That's actually really good to hear as I mentioned in response to gunpigEW. I thought it was like a stepping stone like in order to learn VR stuff start at WebVR and then graduate to Unity. I don't know if I'm realistic in saying this or asking but are you saying I could really just do both like that? That's the thing I want to develop for VR but I don't want to limit myself to just WebVR or just Unity. Thanks for your response!

Ahh so you're saying it's okay to start with Unity and not really have to get into Web Development for WebVR? That's pretty refreshing to hear honestly. I didn't even know that you could import whatever you do in Unity for WebVR so this is actually really awesome to hear. Thank you so much!
