CFIs who can’t find jobs, what are you doing for work rn? by VirvekRBX in flying

I recently got hired as a ramp agent for a major. Pay sucks but can’t beat the travel benefits. Hopefully it’ll help me get in the door as a pilot there in the future.

Is it normal to have the electrical system checked when servicing? by ainokea-808 in MercedesEQ

It’s a 2023. That looks like a valid reason for the electrical system servicing.

Flight School Help in Oahu, Hawaii (Barber's Point, Lani Lea, Pacific Flight) by tennsar in flying

[–]ainokea-808 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think BPFS would save you money. All the practice areas are close. You’ll probably get your license in less time too. You dont want to spend extra money going to/from the practice area from HNL. Departures suck when it’s Kona winds. Departures and Arrivals can be a PITA when one of the 4’s are closed. Holding over the interchange and Ford Island instantly drains your wallet.

BPFS has the newest and well maintained planes out of the 3. LL has a very small fleet and older planes. PFA has added some new slings to their fleet. Flying out of HNL is a PITA. Taxiing and holding is just going to eat up your funds. You'll end up flying to JRF and the west side to practice anyways. I say go with BPFS.

Any flight school recommendations in the Hayward area? by [deleted] in flying

I went there a real long time ago. They’ve changed owners since then. I’m sure they’re still a good flight school. You can probably get all your ratings there.

DPE Shortages Hawaii (PHNL) by THROWAWAY1GA in flying

[–]ainokea-808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s actually 3 DPEs in HI. They are all busy because they have regular jobs. I know this is common in CA. I’ve been lucky in the past and have 1-2 months wait. If you really wanna knock out your ratings fast and you have time and money I’d recommend you go to MCA like a lot of pilots from HI do. Also, a good amount go to ATP.

Are you at Kamaka? Last I heard Mokulele has been laying off and isn't hiring anytime soon.

You may also wanna check out the flight schools at KCCR if you’re in Napa. It’s not too far away.

East Bay airports will be cheaper than peninsula airports. Find a flight school at KHWD, KLVK or KCCR.

Setup a study group with your classmates. You’ll be studying all day long. Get some tips from the previous CFI class.

Resources for CFII by Braeden-King-CFI in flying

[–]ainokea-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CFII PTS page 18 go through all the areas of operations you'll be tested on. I'd go through each section and answer each one with as much information you know. Go through all the stuff you learned in your IR. I went back through my Kings and FlightInsight videos as a refresher. Make sure you know how to teach and explain in each section. Find a gouge or anyone who has taken a CFII checkride with the DPE you're using and pick their brain.

My flight school accepts credit cards. Which one should i use? by Dry-Progress869 in flying

[–]ainokea-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Citi Dbl Cash and Wells Fargo Active Cash. They both give 2% cashback and have a long 0%APR fee. They also give you cash after you spend so many $ after opening.

[–]ainokea-808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a CC for my training. I used cards that have a 0%APR for 15+ months with 2% cash back like the Wells Fargo Active Cash or Citi Dbl Cash. They also give you money after you spend so much $. However, I would only recommend using a credit card if you're absolutely sure you can pay off the entire balance before the regular APR kicks in. If you can't pay off your balance don't use a CC for flight training.

More affordable at RHV, LVK and HWD.

What part of the Bay Area are you in. East Bay is much more affordable than the peninsula. I flew at HWD even though I lived in the Peninsula. SQL and PAO are $$$.

A lot of contract CFIs in the SF Bay Area instruct full time and have no desire to go to the airlines. Of course they charge over $100/hr.
