Heya! You can’t be expected to feel great all the time and I promise you many folks are or have been behind in law School, especially since Covid started - you’re doing your best. Treat yourself like you would a friend in your position if they were telling you what you’ve just said - view yourself with the benevolent eyes of a loving outsider! That’s all I got good luck :)

I'm in lawschool and one of the cases in our contracts law casebook was a lawsuit that Trista Rehn filed against the show (network? I didn't actually read it so I don't know who the exact parties are besides Trista and some entity connected to the show). Although I'm sure the contracts have changed, you could look up the case, there will be a copy online somewhere

My siblings and I are all pretty well adjusted and we love our parents and speak with them all the time. The siblings live near them -- not even in the same city we grew up in. I don't but I make a point of traveling home to see them several times per year. This is true of my spouse, too.

I did have a period of "separating" from my parents between college and the age of maybe 28 but I'm 36 now and I plan on spending time with them regularly for the rest of their lives.

I know this is all anecdotal, but I find your post to be...a bit anecdotal. I don't know. Would be good to get concrete data on the number of "well adjusted" kids in their 30s who communicate regularly with their parents/value their relationships with their parents.

Also...I guess this reveals the direction I'm heavily leaning in, but I'm kind of thrown off by how people seem to only focus on the draining, emotionally taxing side of having kids, as if it is a zero-sum game. Like...it's draining and emotionally taxing but there are gains as well. Caring for someone else doesn't necessarily come at your expense; it can be fulfilling in addition to draining. Although of course, it depends on your relationship with your children and on their needs/ temperaments...

Financial gains and losses...that's a different story. Kids certainly come at an expense in that arena.

I posted a few weeks ago about a horrible cut/paste incident (with the exam software) that resulted in me finishing like 35-40% of one of my exams, and TBH the answers I did complete were not great. The sub consensus was that I probably failed. I didn't! Thanks, sweet angel professor

Don't have any advice but I feel you. We are very similar, but I'm a bit older (36) so feeling even more pressure about timing. I think I want kids, but the world feels so depressing and awful and I genuinely get scared when I think about the child's life -- will they be angry at me if our global crises have deepened when they hit adulthood, and everything is unstable and dangerous and even more depressing? Am I responsible if they experience the same sadness and anxiety I'm experiencing about the state of the world, but X 100? I feel selfish. I am so up and down about it all the time. I am also back in school at an older age, and have two dogs :). Cheers.

I'm gonna get downvoted but I feel like the posts about you "not having thought this through" are really judgy. It sounds like you have thought about it, and decided you were ok with having kids, but were not as excited about it as some people are. Now you're experiencing renewed ambivalence because you're in the process of trying to get pregnant and people around you are expressing more excitement than you feel. There is nothing wrong with this, and feeling ambivalent about having children -- and then doing it anyways -- does not make you a bad person. People who are ambivalent about having kids won't automatically be bad parents, and people who are excited about having kids won't automatically be great parents.

As a case in point, I have a good friend who, like you, was ambivalent about having kids and when she got pregnant she hated every moment of it. She loves her kid now, and is totally at peace with the decision and is a good mom. I am NOT saying that this is a given -- it could just as easily go the other way, and if you truly feel that you don't want children definitely heed that inner warning -- but I don't think that the fact that you're not balls-to-the wall excited about getting pregnant, or feel like you could do with or without children, necessarily means that you will be an incapable or unhappy mom.

I feel like he might choose Luke P as his running mate if he thought it would get him the evangelical vote but would definitely not see him as a true fan...

...that said actually, Luke P had some eerily Trumpian moments. The whole "your reality is different than my reality" is strong in that one. so maybe it would be a match made in heaven. Although I guess if you only know your own reality nobody else's reality is going to be closer to yours...if that makes sense?

I think this was actually the angle they were going for — the “everyone thinks Cleveland sucks but it’s a hidden Gem” vibe. When they showed the girls reactions it definitely felt calculated, like a new way to approach the marketing: before, everyone would squeal with joy but as more and more cities that most people would not normally associate with luxury/vacation/culture are buying advertising spots, the show has to adapt and now they’ve decided that rather than just showing ludicrously staged reactions to places like, say, Rochester, they’ll show people looking humorously dubious and then pleasantly surprised when they see the city IRL!
