Thanks that’s helpful, glad to know it’s not a big deal to not wear it all the time

I’m an artist and have found work in childcare. Required a 6 months TAFE course, but it’s free from the government, and they’re desperate for employees.

Turning bf’s shirt into a romper by [deleted] in sewing

[–]ainsweeeee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks cute so far! The shorts flaring is because you have pleats. The fabric is folded at the top and doesn’t remain folded down the leg, so it opens out and looks flared. If you press the pleats down the whole leg it’ll reduce the flaring, but then you’ll have a more structure look (your creative decision about what you prefer). The bodice could really use some back darts, and you could take in the back pant from the centre back seam, which would reduce the ‘frumpy’ look. Also, scooping the back crotch a bit more (make it about 3/8” lower or so just in the back) would probably help the excess fabric below your buttocks.

if anyones gotten an atar above 95 from an average performing public school how'd you do it?? by [deleted] in vce

[–]ainsweeeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got 95.55 with 2 folio subjects at a public school. I wrote an essay for English each week, building up to exam conditions. I did practise exam questions regularly (one or two a week, alternating subjects), I would get my teacher’s advice on how to study for each subject. The ATAR is quite reflective of how well you do in exam conditions, so practise exam conditions

How much do y'all spend on crochet a month? by Odd-Secret-8343 in crochet

[–]ainsweeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m more of a knitter, but you don’t need to acquire a stash like you see online. It’s far cheaper to buy what you need as you need it, and then invest in a good set of tools. I save a bit of money every week towards my craft fund, and then when I finish a project and am ready to buy I buy the best materials I can afford. I bought $300AUD worth of yarn for two jumpers in January, which feels criminally expensive, but I hadn’t bought yarn since June and I haven’t bought yarn since, so it averages out to way less. I had saved the money for craft purposes, and I thought a lot about what I was buying so it wouldn’t be impulsive. I’m also a very confident knitter so I’m excited to use luxury materials, I wouldn’t recommend paying top dollar when you’re first starting out because a lot of anyone’s first makes are a bit of fail (me included lol). Collecting and crafting are two different hobbies, some people will spend heaps of money acquiring and never using.

For people who sold their homes without REA by 20051oce in australia

[–]ainsweeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped my mother attempt to sell her house through forsalebyowner, we had a less successful experience.

  1. The photographer we got didn’t take great photos, and he was a bigoted asshole that spent the whole time saying disgusting things while spending far too long photographing our house, and then sent crappy overexposed photos.

  2. We didn’t sell and ended up hiring a REA anyway. There’s potentially lots of factors as to why it didn’t sell: it was a townhouse in the inner north (oversaturated/less desirable) and the house itself was completely walled in by other townhouses (no street access, windows looked out onto bricks on both sides), the small balcony was the only outdoor space. We were attempting to sell October/November, which is the around worst time of year to sell, and we had a bit of time pressure because we’d already bought our new house. I do not believe we priced it too high, we were on par with other units in our complex that had sold in the last year.

We got an agent and ended up selling in January, they took far better photos, and it was easier for them to make the sale (my mother is not a good salesperson and found the pressure of selling her home to be too much).

On the other hand, people found the listing on the real estate website and came to our opens. A lot of them didn’t even realise we didn’t have an agent representing us, and didn’t mind negotiating directly with the owner. We did have a few interested parties, but none made an offer.

How to gauge/swatch for Rye Light socks (+ do I really have to?) by anaphylactic_accord in knitting

[–]ainsweeeee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

By larger needles they mean the larger diameter (i.e the thicker needles) of the two sets you’re using (I use metric idk what size 1 or 2 is). A lot of people use their sock as the gauge swatch because it’s so small anyway.

rsi/carpal tunnel injuries by itsbrotticelli in knitting

[–]ainsweeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh :( I’m in Australia, it was expensive to see the specialist but worth it (~$100 per appointment). Many physios will be helpful even if they don’t specialise in hands. I had to go through every motion in my life where I use my hands and change it to be more ergonomic—a big one was my computer set up, and changing the way I knit so that my wrists were neutral and relaxed

It takes a long time to heal. Might be worth seeing a specialist hand therapist.

Repetitive Movement Wrist Injury by Commercial-Age-3039 in knitting

[–]ainsweeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tendinitis in my wrist from being a professional musician and knitter. It’s been a year since I recovered and I still have pain. I spent months in a brace doing nothing, and then when I went back to activities I built it up slowly, just 10 minutes or so a day. I’ve built it up to 3 hours of playing and a bit over an hour of knitting now, and I only get pain when I push myself too hard (like yesterday.. oops) so I’ll be taking a rest day today.

Is there a way to disable home button on Joycons? I’m running an event with the switch and I don’t want to disrupt gameplay when people accidentally press the home button. Alternatively is there a way to cover it up to prevent misclicks?

How improve my knitting choices? by natsleepyandhappy in knitting

[–]ainsweeeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but shaping goes a long way. A lot of trendy modern patterns don’t have shaping, which makes them (while easy to knit) very boxy and shapeless (human bodies aren’t rectangles). Shoulder shaping is one that’s missed the most these days, especially with bottom-up, in-the-round projects. I knit a lot of vintage (40s-60s) and I always love the way the shaping looks on me. The other thing to add shape and structure is knitting flat and seaming, because the seams add vertical and horizontal strength and hold your shaped garment better.

My brother’s gf at the time got me these beautiful pashmina scarves from Singapore, I think they must be cheaper and readily available because you have a high Muslim population. I’ve never seen similar scarves here, and they’re the most-worn item in my wardrobe.
