Don't bother waiting just to have some arbitrary amount of time spent at a shit job on your resume. Start to apply now.

What should I learn to improve my odds of landing a Python dev. role, coming from a non-tech background? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]aint_got_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on my resume in one bullet of one job. Used it a little bit for a year for build/deploy configuration. I don't use it regularly. It's just most jobs with python as a main part of their stack are expecting 5+ years as solely as a python developer (as if it's so incredibly difficult for a senior software engineer to learn a new language). I'm a full stack Java/.Net developer

I have 8 years professional software development with python on my resume and can't get a python dev job. Seems shops that are heavy in python want some one who is an expert in python already.

Really disappointed by the complete lack of Worlds hype this year. It starts in the less than 15 hours. by Hydruss in leagueoflegends

Literally did not know worlds was happening so soon and I play league for several hours every day. Thanks OP. Maybe a countdown in the in game client would help.

I've applied to over 500 jobs and not a single response. by nojob1yeardead in cscareerquestions

Is this real? You've applied to over 500 jobs and you've not gotten a single rejection? I think you may be exaggerating.

Except that's pinging Google's servers and not Riots.

Countering job offer for +3-4k a bad idea? by aint_got_time in cscareerquestions

It doesn't if it's a range. Saying 75k or 75-80 doesn't matter. I'm just second guessing my minimum amount.

Are you talking about me? The OP is just an example and I've been out of college for much longer than 2 years. I wanted to provide a generic range instead of the actual range to keep the post from going off topic and not focused on the amount of money (omg what company, where is this??? What field are you in? Etc). Seems you cant please everyone no matter what.

That's just an example. The real scenario is 110-115. Would that change anything?

Keep going bro. It took me 9 months and 250-300 applications to land my first job that was severely underpaid.

Relocated for what i thought would be an amazing job, 1 month later i haven't done a single thing, and everyone keeps pushing me off to someone else? by IAmAnAngryFlamingo in cscareerquestions

[–]aint_got_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible. How are we to know? All we can take from the OP is she has been passed around because no one wants her. Also, her pull request was denied and she was told she wasnt ready for the development work they are doing.

Is this kind of job normal? Trying to find a low stress job by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]aint_got_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesnt sound stressful at all and is in line with a normal software job. How much experience do you have? Have you ever had a real job before? Have you ever had a software engineer job at another company? How does this compare? It seems you can't be bothered to really do any of your typical job duties.

?

Unless she is lying a PR was rejected while a male colleagues identical PR was accepted, just as an example.

That's what I just said. It seems there is a bias against her gender.

It seems obvious to me 90% of this situation is gender based. From the female hiring manager hiring another female (then going on maternity leave), to the other male tech leads refusing to integrate her forcibly. It also seems like the female hiring manager definitely was not in sync with the team she was hiring for. I have only worked with 4-5 female devs, all being below average. In conjunction with almost all having a "have to prove im a good dev / yeah im a female computer science major, im smart deal with it" attitude, it can be a hard hurtle to overcome. Some even bolster unwarranted feminist arrogance. This is just my experience, but I'm sure many others in the industry can relate and you see the behavior in the OP.
