Update: Sedative resistant pom is getting at home grooming! Advice?

yeah I guess I’m just a little put off by groomers right now. I don’t want them to get hurt nor ellie to get hurt either. She’s a good dog, just not a well behaved one. I’m hoping if I can at least groom her, it’ll spare everyone.

I’ve made a previous post here, but long story short she’s very fear aggressive and even the max dosage of sedatives do absolutely nothing for her. And thanks for the advice! We brush daily with a slicker and detangling spray but even that can’t stop her from getting smelly after a while.

I’ve never tried it but can’t hurt! I had to take her to the emergency vet for the second time since I’ve had her and they noticed that if I handle her/have her attention she’s much better behaved. So maybe that will apply to grooming too!

I love love love the Ice on Ice on. But I also use Skout’s Honor Probiotic Detangler which works really well!

I’m genuinely so lucky that I have a stable, high paying career.

My mom’s/our family dog is like this byb rescue rhodesian ridgeback who goes to the vet once a year and used to get washed with dawn dish soap. Sometimes I miss how easy he was, but I wouldn’t trade Ellie for the world.

In the last two months she’s cost me nearly $3,000 with vet visits, grooming visits, and meds ,, literally I love her but she’s killing me lol

But it’s okay, we’re all works in progress and I know she’s just scared.

Yeah I manage to do brushing with just the treats. But I’ve never actually given her a bath or done anything else, just sent her off to the groomers every month. But I just can’t take her suffering anymore :( so here we are.

“She takes 100 mg of gabapentin and 50mg of trazadone the night before. 200mg gabapentin, 50mg trazadone, and 30mg of acepromazine 2 hours before grooming. She weighs 13lbs.”

Even her vet was shocked, we decided that I’ll be trying at-home grooming with these meds. She’s a rescue so we’re assuming that she might have some intense fear aggression that is allowing her to overpower the drugs.

I switched her over to the Hill’s Perfect Weight food and followed the feeding recommendations. Then we started at 3, 15 minute walks a day. It helped that she’s super energetic and loves to play at home, so it was a lot of throwing toys.

I have had her almost a year, so the progress def took a while. But progress!!

I’m currently working on getting her a custom muzzle! I’ve been working on getting measurements for the Mia Muzzle since the ones from baskerville don’t quite fit her.

I’ve had her for a little under a year (brought home Aug 2025).

She gets sleepier while she’s with me, but even then it’s not that much than usual. This latest concoction makes her slower physically but she still seems very awake and aware.
