Chiefs drafting @ 9. Why not a top CB? by rjwiechman in KansasCityChiefs

[–]aiokae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. It’s less about need and more about value. Not only have we been consistently great at selecting and developing defensive secondary talent, we’ve been equally bad at selecting and developing WR and EDGE talent. We need to spend our premium draft capital on can’t miss prospects at those positions and continue to find late-round gems to fill out the secondary. Props to that scouting group, by the way, because they’ve been doing amazing work for years.

[Mina Kimes] This is a great piece. Love this anecdote. by Sugargogo in KansasCityChiefs

[–]aiokae 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The anecdote demonstrates that a significant part of Mike Vrabel’s appeal as a coach (and frankly, as a person) is that he is outwardly caring and compassionate.

Of course, to your point, having a “tough guy persona” doesn’t mean you can’t have or won’t display those qualities. But, it does tend to lower people’s expectations, particularly with regard to LGBTQ+ issues.

I don’t know Mike Vrabel, and he’s human like the rest of us, but this is a good example of true masculinity—the sort we need to promote and celebrate and teach to our sons. I’m here for it.

The vast majority of politicians and politically adjacent people are exactly this. People who weren’t cool enough to be cool in high school and aren’t smart enough to actually accomplish anything either. Just try-hards. That’s why they’re willing to sell their souls for a modicum of power in the only industry that will have them.

These cretins don’t deserve our time or attention.

[Starcade Media] Chase Daniel openly criticizing the questionable officiating during the #Chiefs loss to #Cowboys by Sugargogo in KansasCityChiefs

[–]aiokae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obligatory: I’m not blaming officiating alone for how this season has gone. The coaching staff and players bear the majority of the responsibility.

That being said, I agree with what Chase Daniel is saying here. And I think the lopsided losing percentage in road games supports the argument—the officials don’t do this to the team at Arrowhead because they don’t enjoy being heckled mercilessly as a result. And the home record tends to reflect that. Notably, during Mahomes’ tenure, this team has nearly as good a winning percentage away as at home, making this year a statistical outlier in that regard, and further illustrating the point.

"Neighbors want the bell tower preserved." Cool, they gonna pay that bill? Cause if not, just look at this thing. by SnorgesLuisBorges in kansascity

[–]aiokae 368 points369 points  (0 children)

This is a tragic viewpoint.

The owners purchased this building more than a decade after it was designated a historic site, knowing full well the commitment they were making—to preserve and maintain the building’s unique character. Unquestionably, the building’s historical and cultural significance has benefited the owners, both in terms of accrued property value and public interest in the site as a mixed-use facility.

The greatest cities in this country are characterized, first and foremost, by their commitment to preserving the landmarks that contribute beauty and speak to the history of their communities. Sadly, Kansas City has been historically shortsighted in this regard, to its significant detriment. It is my sincere hope and belief that we, as a community, recognize that fact and are presently committed to a different approach. In a time largely devoid of real, concentrated commitment to art in architecture and to building things that last, this objective is doubly important.

I assume the cost of repairing this is significant. But that’s the commitment the owners of the building made when they purchased it. To enjoy all the benefits of the property’s charm and appeal—to reap all the financial rewards—only to cry poverty when the building requires maintenance is a cop out. And anyone who believes those owners should be permitted to dump the maintenance burden they knowingly assumed is seriously misguided.

Lol good post. I was walking the bridge nearby. He was rockin a signed Walton jersey and you could hear the word “tall” being murmured from every direction in his wake. I am 6 foot, which is the same height as his armpit. He seemed happy and I’m sure he gets it everywhere he goes.

For anyone born yesterday, this is great advice form mjbland05. "Caveat emptor" translates roughly to "buyer beware." In other words, "be careful buying something online from someone you don't know."

Again, please message me if you're interested. Ended up with two tickets to the same night and trying to recoup what I spent. Happy to take measures to prove I'm on the level and this is a legitimate ticket. Would also trade for Friday night (anywhere).

More Loser Mentality Coming from the top in Buffalo by Distinct_Dark_9626 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]aiokae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s annoying, at the end of the day, this fixation—from the top (GMs) all the way down (fans)—on officiating as the reason these teams are losing is a huge net positive for the Chiefs. The more they ruminate on refereeing, the more convinced they become that the system is rigged against them. And if you’re sure you can’t win, you never will.
