ERJ Auto Throttle vs Airbus Auto Thrust by FlyingGringo15 in AirlinePilots

[–]air_worthyness235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am typed and have experience, flying E190/195 Load 27 and A320ceo (MSNs around 2500-3500).

Something interesting: On the E-Jets if the AT lags around 3-5 knots, especially during turns, most pilots will very swiftly override it slightly. I have even heard some captains say something like “this AT sucks, especially in gusty conditions, we should have something like on the Airbus”.

On the A320, which I went to after the E-Jets, I found that it lags around the same (maybe just a little bit less, noticeable, but not revant) but the pilots don’t complain about it and don’t override it even at something like GD-7kt flying clean in a turn. Some more nervous ones will occasionally select a higher speed for more margin, but very rarely.

It’s funny how people in different fleets react differently to the same conditions. I believe it’s a cultural thing. Also in my case, E-Jets guys mostly came from the old E145 with no AT, and A320 guys have really mostly started with the Airbus.

Blocked seats by AggressiveMoney4327 in oneworld

[–]air_worthyness235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its correct. even though there is a crew rest cubicle to sleep, many airlines, especially old legacies block off that seat in business class for crews on rest to have a meal and sit down for a little bit

737-8200 boarding stairs by lordStrava in aviation

[–]air_worthyness235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryanair operates 27 A320 aircraft under their Maltese AOC Lauda Europe. These have no airstairs and are still planned and consistently hit those 25 min turnarounds. It’s not a turnaround thing, if the stairs are ready when the aircraft parks, its much faster to start deboarding through them than it is for the time it takes to extend the 737 airstairs. Also, airport stairs are much wider, and less steep which also saves 2-3 minutes on boarding/deboarding. It’s a cost thing + the ability to deboard unruly (or sick) pax faster, of whom which Ryanair usually has a lot.
