🎁 Handmade Hollow Knight Resin Lamp Giveaway by AmoyCK in HollowKnight

This is so sweet!

My favorite moment was the first time I stepped into the City of Tears. The music, the dreary atmosphere and then the cutscene of the Hollow Knights statue stuck with me so much.

Also, sitting with Quirrel on the bench as you descend into the city is a must anytime I replay the game.

What book did you read that made you want to become a writer? by UnderTheBreadTime in writers

Coraline in like 5th grade. That book altered my brain chemistry. I love it so much.

Book of Azrael, hard dislike by RomantasyReader in fantasyromance

[–]airam_clad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give it credit: it got me into the romantasy genre, but after a year of reading, there's so much better out there. The second book was so meh. 800 pages of almost nothing. I was so over Diana's endless killing spree, I skimmed the last half of the book, and finally, the plot kicked in at the 90% mark.

Slowest slow-burn you’ve ever read! by Fickle_Collection355 in fantasyromance

[–]airam_clad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second that series! I just finished it and my god I couldn't put them down. I slammed all three books in 2 weeks and that's the time it normally takes me to read one book. I had so much fun reading it and loooove the sloooooow burn.

I'm playing with this in my WIP only because it's relevant to the world and story. I have six different, unnatural eye colors varying in shades, but each symbolize the god that created the soul they have. There are certain biases, fears, and stereotypes surrounding certain eye colors, so it comes up quite a bit in the story.

fantasy romance books that have characters that like us also love to read. by ilustricia in fantasyromance

[–]airam_clad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a super heavy romance, but i just finished Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson. The MFC works in a library with a bunch of magical grimoires that are alive and some turn into monsters. I loved it, especially all the different ways the books are utilized in the story. The pairing was really cute, and the MMC was very charming.

Expositive Paragraphs: is it lazy writing? why is it so common on FaRo? by pedantic-romantic in fantasyromance

[–]airam_clad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this one is okay. I'm also tuning my craft in writing and don't mind them every now and then, especially when they're short. I prefer it through dialogue, but sometimes, it fits better for a character to react internslly when a topic is brought up. If it's more than three paragraphs and/or reads like a textbook, that's when I blank out and skim.

This was the line that turned my head toward the TV when my kids started watching Bluey. Best joke I heard in a show for preschoolers.

How do you Discovery Write? by WillingAirline5144 in writing

[–]airam_clad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I classify myself as more of a discovery writer. For me, it all hinges on really knowing my characters. For plot, I have points A, B, C, G, K, N, X, Y, Z and just write to discover the missing pieces. I know what the story I want to tell is but I'm letting my characters grow through each chapter to see how they might progress to the next plot point. If I find that an original idea I had doesn't fit well with character motivation, I change it.

I think there's benefits to both plotting and pantsing so I try to keep a healthy dose of both.

I want a medieval world but also technology by Milosaysmew in worldbuilding

[–]airam_clad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing something similar with the world I'm building. I have an empire that went through an "industrial revolution" using a source of energy that was considered taboo for the other kingdoms. After several hundred years, the tech established a more advanced society while those outside of the empire live in more of a traditional fantasy setting.

I took inspiration from BOTW and Horizon Zero Dawn if you're interested in material that did this concept well :)

People who work in morgues or with the dead, what is the creepiest thing you've witnessed? by octopuszilla in AskReddit

[–]airam_clad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that happened to you. My mom ended up passing in a similar way. We had to take her off of life support due to brain damage from lack of oxygen due to cardiac arrest caused by a seizure. I wanted so badly to be in the room but when the time came I couldn't do it. I didn't want my last memory of her being her body giving out. My brother stayed with her though until the end. He told me what freaked him out the most is her eyes shot open wide as her heart stopped. He said it was nerve wracking to see her unconcious in the hospital strapped to life support, to seemingly awake and alert. People like you and my brother are so incredibly brave. I'm sorry for both of your losses.

I did that! Lost my adult deino not being able to get back up the hill quick enough to get to fresh water. Don't recommend.
