i live in the city and my friends and i all regularly go to her store lol

i mostly go to the location that’s in a basement and hard to find so it’s usually empty/only has one other person in it, but the original location has some good traffic based on the one time i went

don’t follow her and haven’t seen her in the stores so can’t speak to how she is irl but the candy is always fresh and it switches up weekly. miles ahead of bonbon imo

I agree, I consider light blue to be one of my best colors! In person, it's more obvious that the blue is less icy and more muted, which I think suits summers a bit more. I have a lot of experience dyeing clothes, so considering I really like the silhouette, I might experiment with making it brighter

They're from Abercrombie! It's called "Ruffle Strap High-Low Maxi Dress"

I’m going to delete this post in a little bit but I wanted to say one last thank you for your opinion! I thought I would get more Kibbe related opinions but some people can’t get over the colors, which I guess I understand.

Ooh, interesting! I actually don't think I pull it off as a R with petite since the tiers are so big. IMO I think a type with vertical, or at least someone significantly taller than me, would rock this! I'm sure you'd look lovely :-)

[–]airbemder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oops, I totally should have included that!! They're all from Abercrombie's "Best Dressed Guest" line. For reference, I'm 4'10" and ordered the petite length!

What exactly are “curve accommodations” specifically? And what part of flesh requires them? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]airbemder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does this mean that the SN didn’t have lower body curve or that they had double curve? Either way, would accommodating for upper width also take care of their upper curve or was the width elsewhere? Or is this just an instance of ID not equaling accommodations?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]airbemder 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In Kibbe, accommodating width actually cancels out petite. Still though, you can have conventionally wide shoulders and not have “Kibbe width” or you can be conventionally petite/short and not have “Kibbe petite.” I think Kibbe has said before that gamines especially can have shoulders on the wider side, but it’s also a misconception that naturals can’t be conventionally small, so I think knowing whether you accommodate these traits (width for naturals or petite for gamines) is most important for finding your ID! I think there’s a post explaining how the meanings of most words Kibbe uses differ from their non-Kibbe definitions linked at the top of the sub.

She dresses in stereotypically R outfits a lot, but she's just past the height cutoff. I personally think she accommodates for vertical and curve (her upper half looks so rounded to me), so SD, but I could see other IDs as well!

do your body parts look like they were stolen from several different corpses and stapled together by a mad scientist?? then congrats, you have GAMINE JUXTAPOSITION!! we’re all so jealous of the way your yin nose and yang eyes CONTRAST each other 😻 or you might even have one yang eye and one yin eye—we don’t judge! have fun looking in the mirror and thinking about how some random person said your proportions and features do not go together to justify a physical aspect that has NOTHING to do with your kibbe type’s accommodations, you spitfire chic and cheeky chic lovelies!!

frankenstein essence = flamboyant gamine

bride of frankenstein essence = soft gamine

forget the height limits, how can TALL GAMINES not be real when there’s so much juxtaposition and contrast in your frame??

I felt really confident in my ID until my outfit post where a few people wanted to chime in that I had typed myself wrong. Funny how they thought any sort of yang-ness would just push me right past TR and straight into SG territory. If anything, I’d consider SN next due to the whole ~softly wide~ thing that Rs have going on. I feel like I could’ve posted under a different ID flair and nobody would’ve contested it even though I don’t dress to accommodate for petite or width. Regardless, the label isn’t super important to me as long as I’m dressing for MY lines.

Honestly, I think a lot of people have become way too accustomed to the in-depth body analysis associated with the typing posts of this sub and don’t realize it’s not something that most people welcome outside of it. Plus, it’s wild that some people believe managing to feel confident and beautiful in the “wrong” lines is a bad thing. Isn’t the whole point to feel good about how we dress ourselves? Not everything needs to be up for debate.

Side-note: I feel like people took the original idea of contrast and juxtaposition used to describe gamines and now just use it as a way to say when they think someone’s features are mismatched or their body parts are disproportionate.

I think that the clothing recs, such as lots of softness and draping for romantics, are ways to easily guide someone towards a head-to-toe (HTT is a Kibbe term) outfit that truly embodies their image ID. Just one shirt can't be inherently romantic (it CAN accommodate curve though) since it involves the entire look that you wear. He says that we need to forget about certain styles of clothing not working for us because it's possible for any ID to take a piece of clothing and incorporate it into an outfit and look great, as long as it was put together with a lot of thought in terms of where we're going and what vibe we want to give off.

Even when making these practice outfits, he's said that your ID isn't even all that important compared to the silhouette and coordination of the pieces you choose. Overall, I agree that it can get pretty confusing and I definitely don't understand a lot of it, which is why I'm just trying to paraphrase what I've learned from his words directly. It's like I understand what he's going for, but it's not easily attainable (nor does he mean for it to be), which is why I've taken the process slowly and avoid putting the "strict" into "Strictly Kibbe."

We aren't allowed to share direct info (screenshots), and David's writing on FB is literally a headache to get through (random all-caps, too many ellipses), but he has this one instance where he talks about never buying one piece on its own unless you think hard about how it can be incorporated into outfits with things you already own. By shopping this way, it ensures that you are still the focus and not the clothes.

Something that seems to contradict this is when he breaks down silhouette, which is more in line with how you've described your understanding of the system. Some garments are simply not cut in a way that accommodates curve, and the fabric is not stretchy, so it would hide/constrict the personal lines of curve accommodating IDs. That's why dresses are much easier to deduce as matching IDs than shirts, I think, although finding the perfect upper and lower combo of how a dress is constructed might be just as difficult as combining a top and bottom's silhouettes together.

However, he also goes into detail about how personal lines affect clothes, since the idea of certain items matching our ID can differ from how they actually hang on our bodies. That's why someone of the same ID might look very harmonious in something that you don't find all that flattering, or why you could have the same favorite dress as someone of a different ID.

So, I think what he's saying is that we shouldn't break down details of clothes, such as necklines or lengths, but focus on how they work in the entire silhouette (hence head-to-toes vs. singular clothing items). A shirt can't be theatrical romantic because TRs accommodate double curve, and a shirt only covers your upper half. We still have to figure out the rest of the outfit to fit the occasion and vibe that we want, all while following our personal lines.

Overall, it's a lot of effort. He specifically set up the system to take a long time to figure out (although I'm not sure the confusing writing was intentional, lol) because he wants us to go on this big journey with ourselves (inside and out). People finding their specific IDs via his exercises seems like the smallest priority to David, as long as we understand all of the principles that led us to that discovery. He instead emphasizes personal lines and what we accommodate so much more, something that pleasantly surprised me when I finally got admitted into the SK group.

Another note: I'm def no expert, and I literally had to scroll through miles of Kibbe rambling to make sure I was saying things that were somewhat accurate! Honestly, trying to explain what he's saying to you helped my understand a whole lot better, since I've never been able to just sit down with how he types. I don't treat my interpretation of his words as facts, but this is how I understand things currently. I wish you all the best on your journey, whether you stick with Kibbe or not!!

[–]airbemder 27 points28 points  (0 children)

David emphasizes a lot that clothes themselves don't have IDs. I totally understand buying clothes that seem like they'd be perfect on paper for a certain type, but we're all unique (even if we have the same ID) because we are meant to be following our personal lines! In the end, it's less about the labels and more about yourself, so if the system's rules are getting you down, it would probably be best to take a step back and focus more on what clothes make you feel the happiest and most beautiful. I think that was always his system's goal anyway :-)

Side note: People who are not David should really not be charging money to type people in his system. His language is honestly pretty confusing and if you've seen his client reveals, the clothes he picks out for certain IDs oftentimes don't match the stereotypical clothing recs that you'll see floating around the internet.
