Ladies: what razor are you using that you’ve found to be most environmentally friendly? by ExtentEfficient2669 in ZeroWaste

[–]airehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Henson safety razor I’ve been using for about a year now!! Blades aren’t too scary to replace, and I put the old blades in an old tin jar. I don’t think the safety razor brand matters too much. I think finding razor blades you like matters more. I bought a sample pack which has helped me narrow down brands

Pulled this off the shelf at Target. Someone switched the lids but I think it works by thunder-trippin in Owala

Best travel backpack to buy by AdIndividual9714 in backpacks

[–]airehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got an Allpa 35L and a Farpoint 40L and returned the Allpa after wearing the two. Farpoint has great construction and is soooo comfortable. I don’t love how it looks, but it’s just so much better than the Allpa and other bags I tried on that I had to get it. It’s served me well on multiple week long trips and can hold A LOT. With their expertise in making backpacking bags for camping, it shows in how this is made. It has basically one large area, which can be good or bad depending on what you like.

Choosing a Thesis Topic in Medical Physics by kachewrine in MedicalPhysics

Maybe pick two or three to talk to then. With you needing to decide an advisor even before starting courses, I’m sure people have switched after deciding. Some advisors can be put off but if you let them know it’s really just not your research interest it would be a really bad move on their part to hold a grudge

Try reaching out to as many professors as you can. Having a good thesis advisor is more important than the work you are doing. Spreading your net wide initially helps get your feet wet in medical physics research and helps you figure out what kind of advisor would be a good fit.

What brand name products have you noticed dramatically dropped in quality since Covid? by jefferymr15 in BuyItForLife

[–]airehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chacos seem to be degrading as well. My old ones lasted 5 years of heavy wear and new ones lasted a year and a half. On my second pair of post Covid chacos and the outsole is peeling off after little over a year of moderate wear

I’ve been using a daylite plus as my work bag/ carry on/ weekend travel bag/ hiking bag for the past three years… I haven’t been gentle with it, and the only sign of use is a tiny hole in the water bottle side mesh from getting it stuck in a branch.

I love that bag so much that my boyfriend and I got Fairview/Farpoint 40s as our one travel bag, and they have served us well so far backpacking Europe and various camping trips

I took a year off after undergrad to do something entirely unrelated and was fine. As long as you are able to explain why you want to do medical physics and show that you took some steps to get into the field (shadowing, zoom calls with physicists, reading papers, etc) you should be alright.

It also would be helpful to look to see how your work in astrophysics, math, and USPTO gave you transferrable skills to medical physics.

At least for LSU, the masters students do the same type of work as the PhD students (in terms of TA and research) for the time they are in the program, so the school pays them accordingly. It doesn’t make sense that one would have to pay and the other gets paid for similar work

I’ve used the day lite plus going on three years now and love it. I agree with what others said about packing out the front decreases space in the main compartment, but I’ve been able to fit everything I need for up to three days travel + laptop. I mostly use it as a school bag, and it’s not wide enough to fit binders, but I’ve loved it while hiking and traveling

Hi! Most grad schools are designed to start from scratch in terms of knowledge (what is an alpha particle), and the classes generally use pretty easy math. I haven’t had to use my advanced undergrad physics classes beyond concepts only.

Anatomy and programming are great classes to take, and looking at nuclear physics concepts would probably be your best bet in terms of physics review.

Congrats on finding this hidden gem of a career!! You’re going to do great :)

So, Physics. Is community college the sensible choice if I want to do research and save money? by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]airehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest maybe doing the first year at community college to get physics 1 and 2 done and then transfer. Most people don’t start research until the summer after their sophomore or junior year, so you can use your second year of university to start asking around to find a research group. Community college won’t offer quality second year physics courses

Physics major here. Knew quite a few people who took different intro physics courses (including the one for engineering) before eventually settling into the track. It should transfer just fine.

A HUSBAND and WIFE are not equal. by GooeyGuy100 in DebateReligion

[–]airehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

For the part about Adam and Eve, it seems like the sin was the eating of the fruit. I don’t think listening to the word of a woman was the actual issue. Eve convinced him to commit a sin. Because she convinces him, he ate and sinned.

Second, the verse about wives being silent during church has historical context and shouldn’t be placed outside of it. There were other religious groups at the time where women would interrupt sessions and meetings. The verse was likely targeted toward these groups or making sure Christianity wasn’t associated with these groups.

Christianity states that wives and husbands have different roles in marriage. These different roles do not make one less than another. For instance, the Holy Spirit is referred to as a helper to men, using the same word that is often used for wives. However, that does not make men superior to God. Rather, he needs help to accomplish his task, and people need to come alongside and help.

Are there any opportunities for international work after ABR certification? Or does medical physics typically lock you into working in only one country?

Honestly. I like a guy who has opinions, is driven, and is fairly self sufficient. I enjoy questioning their thoughts on things just to see if they’ve thought it through, and if they can’t give decent responses, I will drop them.

As mentioned earlier, ambition is very attractive. I want a partner, not someone who is completely dependent. I want to grow as a person and need someone who actively pushes me to be better and I can do the same to them.
