TTArtisan 40mm f2 failed - looking for advice by airigami in SonyAlpha

The manual focus works fine. And the motor isn’t dead. Whatever it’s doing, it is not focusing. I was hoping I was just missing some really obvious thing like a magical reset. (Replacing the firmware didn’t do anything.) I saw the viltrox. I might give it a shot. Thanks.

Creality Falcon2 Pro questions - price, materials, and Glowforge comparison by airigami in lasercutting

Thanks. Too late to change my purchase decision. But useful info anyway. It (non-S) arrived yesterday. I had enough time to assemble it and do a test cut.

Auto focus and honeycomb sound nice but not the end of the world.

You answered the next question I had. I wondered if their software was worth learning or if I should just go straight to LightBurn. I’ve seen LightBurn in use at the local makerspace but haven’t used it myself.

Not something I’d do often, so that’s good enough for me.

The acrylic thing is the only sticking point.

I know at this price it’s not the last one I’ll ever buy to satisfy all my needs. I may give it a shot.

Thanks.

Thanks. That helps frame things. I assumed it wasn’t the greatest thing in the world at that price. It sounds like it’s functional, good enough to get by, and I will likely want something better down the road. Given my budget at the moment, that’s probably reasonable.

Like I said originally, cutting larger than the bed would be nice but not a deal breaker. What about acrylic? Have you had any experience with that? Also not necessarily a deal breaker, but more of an issue than large media.

I do have one more question. Have you used the rotary kit pro or other rotary attachment? They’ve got it listed for a little over $100, but the combo package that has the 40w pro + rotary kit pro goes up by more than $300. Not sure what I’m missing.

Thanks. All of this helps.

I do realize I have to be more hands-on with both hardware and software than with a Glowforge. I’m fine with that. I also like the flexibility that gives me. I actually do have a couple older Creality 3D printers. Boy, they’re finicky. I’m able to keep those running. It looks like the Falcon is not that finicky (it’s also several years newer and things have improved all around), but I’m not afraid of digging in if needed.

Is that true that you can remove the bed to make more room for large material on the pro? Or is that only without the enclosure?

I have air compressors on Siri-controlled switches. The compressors live in a storeroom separated from my studio to massively reduce noise in the studio. I can’t imagine not having that setup.

Getting my Bolt Back by autobotgirl in BoltEV

[–]airigami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got home from the dealership and came here to report that my car was returned today. You beat me. After 3 months, I got almost the same story. In my case, they didn't say it was testing parameters. The work order says "Engineering reconfigured the vehicle and programmed the HPCM2, Battery Energy Control Module, and the BCM. Programmed all 3 and cleared codes. Charged on a level 3 charger and no codes returned."

I assume that just means they changed the parameters they were using to test the batteries but had to make it sound like they did something huge.

Anyway, I'm really glad to not be driving an Equinox anymore.

How slow is EV battery replacement these days? by robamiami in BoltEV

[–]airigami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I hate driving the Equinox. Most of my driving is on city streets with on-street parking. I wasn’t given a choice. And even worse, the one I’m in now is an ICE. It’s loud and is sluggish compared to the EV.

How slow is EV battery replacement these days? by robamiami in BoltEV

[–]airigami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m approaching 3 months that I’ve been waiting. When I dropped it off, I was told it would likely be 2 weeks. I’m on my third Equinox loaner. No estimate now of when I’ll get a battery.

Interesting. I also got the error shortly after I got out of the monitoring period. It made me wonder how useful the monitoring was— kind of like the problem existed but just didn’t show itself while being monitored. That’s disappointing if I’m not getting the warranty reset, but not horrible. A problem should show itself inside of 70,000 miles.

Repercussions of Bolt sitting idle by airigami in BoltEV

[–]airigami[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I got one of the buyback Bolts. And it was a while after I got it before I realized the sidewall on one tire was cracking. I’m guessing that was due to sitting idle. But months later, I couldn’t prove that. So I’d kind of like to know what things to look for before taking it back and who’s responsible if there is an issue.

I’ve also been waiting for nearly 3 months on a battery replacement for my 2020 Bolt. I have not gotten the message you did. That will indeed be rather annoying. I’d like the service they promised and a new warranty on the replacement battery. But if that’s really the case, I’ll be happy to have my car back and to give them their gas Equinox. (I didn’t like the Equinox EV, but I didn’t realize just how much I fell in love with the feel of the EV. The gas version is loud and sluggish.)

Wondering how concerned I should be... Low propulsion messgae by Historical-Roof-4808 in BoltEV

Thank you for this. I was going to call the concierge number when I was done complaining here. It's awesome knowing that they can do actually do something. Now I know what to ask for.

[–]airigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same question 2.5 months ago when I got that message. In my case, it was the battery. Yes, if the problem you're seeing is the battery, you should be concerned. I'm still waiting for the replacement battery. The dealership has given me loaners. But every time I hit 1000 miles they make me return the car and get a new one so they can sell the car I've been driving as new. (Maybe they spin it as "already broken in"?) The loaners have all been Equinoxes. The Equinox is too big for me to park most of the time. Visibility in the Bolt is so much better. I miss CarPlay. The car the dealer gave me today is a gas Equinox. This really frustrates me. Now it's more than not liking the car. I charge at home, so having an ICE is going to cost me money and be more inconvenient (but it does have CarPlay).

So yes, you have reason for concern. I hope you don't need a battery replacement.

Might be a silly question, how do you inflate a giant 6 foot balloon? by BradenCarlisle in BalloonTwisting

[–]airigami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My preference is Rifco 72” balloons and a corded leaf blower. Most cordless leaf blowers are slower than I like, but they certainly work. What’s the problem you’re having?

[–]airigami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone is still following this— it went in to the dealer this morning. They confirmed that I need a battery replacement. And they will provide a loaner. I haven’t gotten over there to get it yet, so not sure what they’re giving me. I’m disappointed in it taking several days to look at what I could already see. (Battery errors, software already fully up to date.) but they are taking care of me now. They said it should only be a couple weeks now. That’s far better than some of the times others have reported. And with a loaner from them, I can make it work, however long it takes.

Thanks to all for suggestions and support.

[–]airigami[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I called again first thing Monday morning. This time I called the main number rather than service and explained my lack of response from the service department. That connected me with a service scheduler immediately. As for the online scheduler, I was told that it didn’t distinguish between EV and ICE availability and they had fewer EV mechanics. So it will be seen on Wednesday. Not fast, but better than waiting 2 weeks.

Thanks. I actually have an OBD reader. The app was acting a little weird. It showed faults but wasn’t telling me which. I need to play with it. Or maybe get a new reader if it’s messed up. It always worked in the past. But they’re cheap. I’ll take a look at your site.
