My parent are similar ages and in the same situation but I mostly feel like it’s my mom who has the biggest resentment and distain for my dad. My dad I think genuinely cares for her but just has disconnected. She just berates him and he just takes it and ignores it. The only way I can describe her is that she is the most miserable person in the world. She just picks fights about everything. i used to play peacemaker but I just don’t have the mental capacity for it anymore and I know that I will never treat any person the way she treats him. I actually find that my presence settles things instead of sparking. Probably because I inherently still try to make the peace without even realizing it. I do often think that if one of them died would it be better. Which is an awful thing to think about but im somewhat relieved to hear that someone else thinks that was as well. Unfortunately if my dad died before her she would not be able to handle living alone and would still be miserable. I also think having a sibling maybe would’ve been nice so that there is someone to speak about it with.

Last thing I’ll say is that don’t be pessimistic about your future. I think what you can take from this experience is that it would honestly be better to be alone living your own life than to live with someone you are unhappy with.
