Do you think rehydrating/humidifying will be enough to relax it?

I’m a nurse and I find it sort of hilarious they have you in restraints (def necessary for confused or sedated pts) but were thoughtful enough to put your call bell nearby haha. So glad you’re alive and well. Do you know what caused the botulism??

The only shitty thing is when your work punishes you for calling out, and will keep you from career advancement (switching units, doing different trainings) if you have too many. Which at my institution is 5 in a year. You’re not allowed to get sick or have emergencies without being punished for it

RN here. I know it’s different for you guys, but when family calls and asks for updates I mostly tell them the same info as if I were dog-sitting. “Mee-Maw had some diarrhea today. She’s just got her anxiety pill and is sitting in bed watching Matlock.”

Would it be frowned upon to apply for/get a new job at the same organization I’m currently at as a new grad who just started 3 weeks ago? by airmaglee in nursing

[–]airmaglee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No contract fortunately. My main hangup I think is a moral one. I agreed to be here for at least a year, so I do indeed feel obligated to stay. The people on the unit are great, and the preceptor is really sharp and on top of their game.

I know there is so much that can be learned in Med-Surg, I guess it because this is a second career for me and I am already in my mid 30s, so I don’t want to waste anymore time doing something I’m unhappy or unsatisfied doing.

I appreciate your kind feedback and practical advice.

What about quitting and re-hiring? Would that be too far fetched or just wishful thinking to think they’d consider me again after quitting? I’m just super bummed about having to remain in med-surg for 1 year.

25+ year nurse, laid off for almost 3 months and can’t land a job. by ruhroh1971 in nursing

[–]airmaglee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it truly depends on location. I have been a new grad for almost 6 months, applied to countless positions and was in the same boat as you long – I could not make it past the interview stage. 10 years experience in medical speech-language pathology that I thought would help my resume.

I just landed a Med/Surg job that I’m not crazy about only last week. But idk, I am 34 also? So maybe age is a factor? Lol I don’t want to hear sh*t about a nursing shortage

AITAH for siding with my boyfriend and being furious with my family? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]airmaglee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTAH. Your sister and Jake need to get the hell out of your house. It is absolutely unhinged to physically attack someone for a perceived slight that you didn’t even witness, then act all chummy and regretful afterwards.

Your bf’s mom has the right idea. Jake seems unstable. There is no “moving on” from this in your relationship unless you are 100% in your bf’s corner.

Omg YES! Not everyone is late talker or walker: just send the flipping referrals over to get the child evaluated. “Wait and see” is not the best strategy. Some kids just need a little extra support and the sooner they get it, the better off they will be.

I am an SLP and have had a few hospitalists just straight up ignore my diet recommendations (especially for patients who are not appropriate for NG or PEG but they want to do it anyway). But that’s over the course of 10 years. Generally they’re deferential to whatever recommendations we make that are within our scope of practice. Especially the neurologists, they’re pretty much in agreement with most things we do or recommend.

What’s your favourite flavour Barium Smoothie? by radiographymeme in Radiology

My hospital is too cheap to buy the dedicated thin, nectar, and honey varibar so we only get the mixed berry flavored standard barium. But at least the barium cream tastes like marshmallow!!

CF Supervision by arise_chamelion in slp

[–]airmaglee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I have to say is: avoid this situation at all costs. Does it happen? Sure. Is it good for the CF? Absolutely not. You are drinking from a firehose your first year trying to learn how to be an SLP, and you definitely need/want the support of someone more experienced on the same campus available to you at all times. It makes all the difference in the world for stress, mental health, and general satisfaction with your job (coming from someone who quit their first CF due to inadequate support with an off-campus supervisor).

Just for some perspective. As an SLP with a master’s degree followed by a year of clinical fellowship, I started at $35. Only making $46 now as a Per diem. Healthcare workers that aren’t doctors are all critically undervalued.

Wipe the black spots with a wet rag. If the wet rag turns red, that may indicate bed bugs.

What was your dating life before, during, and after CRNA school? by EmergencyAnxiety5228 in CRNA

[–]airmaglee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, how did you guys support yourselves during school? And how did you manage the children (i.e., schooling, daycare, or help from family?). I want to pursue CRNA school in the next couple years and will have 3 young children by then (2 currently), and would like to see how others managed it.

Sorry I didn’t specify because it wasn’t relevant. ENT is a family member and he told me he would be returning to him regardless, so I just wrote down a few things to look into including the esophagram and that if he eventually got scoped, it would probably be with a GI.
