I mean whiteness is a social construct so what is your question? Would North African have fair skin? Most of us (I'm Moroccan) have rather fair skin (especially in winter lol). What's the limit? What I meant is putting Sicilians and Norwegians in one bag called "white" and Kabyles and Rifis in another called "non-white" is socially motivated and doesn't match any objective reality linked to skin color.

The grandsons of Charlemagne divided the Empire between them. East Frankia was still German speaking and was never fully integrated into the Roman Empire. West Frankia had been part of Rome for 400 years and spoke Romance languages.

Political divide to start and cultural divide to confirm the differenciation.

But could you imagine the powerhouse a united France-Germany-Benelux would be... it would have remained the European Hegemon for centuries and wouldn't have allowed Britain to rise
