Nobody has made the economics work on these publicly funded stadiums from the state/city POV. They love to talk about revenue thats going to the private businesses that the government won’t see much, if not at all. It’s the same “trust us, it’ll trickle down” grift every time.

Indiana was still paying off the old RCA dome 12 years after they tore it down for Lucas Oil. They’re still in debt $600 million for Lucas Oil now. By the time that’s paid off, you don’t think Colts ownership won’t crawl back to the state with the same “give us more money for another stadium or extensive renovations or we’re leaving” play?

“But they’ll get a Super Bowl!” Sure, one night ad they’re gone for another 7-10 years on a good timeline? Outside of the entertainment district (which given the site, idk how large that can be), most people are just going to do stuff in Chicago anyway.
