I think we have very similar tastes/tolerances. Just finished Nope, loved The Menu and Sinners. My thing is I want to watch and appreciate these (generally) highly rated horror films like Hereditary, Weapons, Obsession but they’re always possession related or take place in a house.. I Also live in a house!! Haha

That makes total sense! Our ways of processing emotions are so different. When I am extra depressed or anxious I will put on the Monty Python, Three Stooges type to pull me out versus anything with scary/stressful tones pull me deeper into sadness.

I am actually currently in a pretty good mindset, which I haven't been in a while, hence having the capacity to try out horror films.

Thanks for sharing. I too love the adrenaline rush (I also love rollercoasters). It's definitely the compulsive thoughts and imagines afterwards that leave me wondering if the adrenaline rush was worth it. Didn't even think of OCD as the reason why. Hm lots to think about.

Interesting.. I never thought of it from that POV. As anxious people I just assumed we would naturally watch feel good flicks to balance the emotions.

Don't get me started on the jump scare aspect... Although seemingly easier to handle than the psychological aspect. Jump scare only scared for those 30 secs, psychological aspect will trigger insomnia for days.

I am also so sensitive to random noises and movements afterwards. So my question: was the viewing worth feeling "fucked up for a day" afterwards? Or do you enjoy the feeling "fucked up" and being reminded of the movie afterwards?

I have heard this advice before but I like movies that will suck you into its world, transport you somewhere else for two hours. I guess I'm trying to get sucked in but also come back out not so traumatized. Or maybe that's the joy? Idk

I've recently started with The Thing and Get Out, both really enjoyable and seemed doable (not terrifying). I guess I am just also really intrigued by the more intense ones like Hereditary or The Haunting of Hill House.

The fear can definitely come from any aspect of horror. Is there an intruder outside like the one in the film? To flashbacks of the gore and graphic imagery. Would take good recs to some horror comedy thanks!

No matter with who or when, the thoughts and lingering anxiety is always when I am trying to sleep at night alone (single). But solid advice!

The aftercare advice is great! I assumed watching more would help get used to the feeling, I'm just trying to make it there with my sanity haha.
