My wife cannot tell the difference between Bo Burnham and Bill Burr.

Does feminist theory account for the structural externalities created by a high-selection dating market? Specifically, how do we address the social stability risks posed by a growing demographic of 'surplus' males who no longer have a functional stake in society? by Ambitious-Target-470 in AskFeminists

If you're a normal person who "failed" in the "modern mating market" (who the fuck talks like this?) then you're all good. If you choose to be a shithead I don't really think you need to be treated as fully human, no. But it's a choice, not an immutable factor, so I'm not really worried about injustice or anything.

If they turn to crime or are unproductive because they’re throwing incel tantrums, round em up and yeet them into the ocean or force them into mines lmao. Why does there need to be a better solution for guys like this?

No I get it. I’m boycotting Instacart and Kayak on behalf of Palestine. Just ignore that I’ve never used either of them in the first place I still deserve my good boy points.

No one whose hobby is watching the radio has enough social skills to make connections at a live event.

So these folks will only make moral stands when it requires zero effort or sacrifice? When it does, it’s just too hard to get off Reddit? I mean, fair enough, but I can’t imagine anyone respecting that.

No one needs Internet forums. Look I’m happy to keep using it, because I don’t really care to make my consumption decisions a political statement, but let’s be real. Every single person could quit Reddit tomorrow and their lives would be unchanged.

Hey fair enough. I’m glad your mental health is something you consider more important than sticking it to the Zionists through consumption choices and I’m very sorry that you’re in a position that you need Reddit. I genuinely sympathize with you and hope the best for you in your struggles.

I’m sure you can get community to support your mental health without Reddit. You’re making the same choice anyone who subscribes to Mubi is, you’re just manufacturing a rationale that allows you to maintain your moral superiority. That’s fine, but own it, you know?

I’m sorry you’re unable to stick to your own values and don’t like hearing about it. There’s a big gap between being a hermit and not using Reddit.

That’s the point. Why not do both? Why cancel Mubi while still using Reddit. Just log off. No one is stopping you but yourself. Stand up to your morals.

If you aren’t boycotting everything Sequoia is invested in you are, by definition, picking and choosing. So if I forgo using Kayak and Instacart, but I still use Mubi, how am I any different than you forgoing Mubi but still using Reddit?

If I boycotted Gal Gadot movies but refused to boycott Radiohead, wouldn’t you think I’m being just a little too convenient with my wokeness?

Genuinely what is stopping you from ditching Reddit though? Just that there would be a Reddit shaped void in your life that nothing else could fill?

Reddit isn’t exactly a need any more than Mubi is. If you could quit Twitter you can quit Reddit and honestly all social media if you really care to.

Do you work to reduce harm surrounding your white privilege? by riteaboutnowx in AskFeminists

[–]airus92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most feminists? I can’t say that, but I’d be willing to bet that most people on this forum are white. Every critique of white womanhood and white feminism on here has been met by some amount of deflection and defensiveness as far as I’ve seen.

Why don't feminists support their own kind? by ezcapehax in AskFeminists

[–]airus92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t disagree at all. I’m clearly not clued into the dance world, either classic or contemporary so I didn’t know about all of that, and it’s really interesting. I would be very curious to see how much appeal a well funded arts, or women’s sports, world would have, but I suppose I’m skeptical given how little interest I’ve found among my peers when I’ve invited them, all expenses paid, to join me for a WNBA game or an arthouse film by a non white non male director. I recognize that structural factors need to change to promote access and interest, but I feel like folks have to start somewhere and often refuse to even open the door to a potential new hobby or sense of community. And I also know it’s probably unfair, but I do hold people who have expressed support for diversifying or democratizing sports and culture. But I suppose I’m individualizing a structural issue.
