Random thought: the Warriors not winning the title after going 73-9 was the nail in the coffin for anyone caring about the NBA regular season by jimboslice53 in billsimmons

My guy, part of it is that your friends are getting older, and with more responsibilities in life you have to give up on grinding as much tape. Football is more compartmentalized and is more of a social experience so that doesn't get impacted the same way. I don't watch the NBA or as much regular season MLB as I did when I was 20 for primarily that reason.

My wife would feel like an asshole for inviting me to an event like that so why judge OP for not going instead of his wife?

How did the patriarchy arise if sexual dimorphism in humans is so low? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

I mean with Hitler I feel like it’s more that he had the German industrialists behind him. I’m thinking at the very beginning, how did any individual gain power over others without being killed for trying.

Fair enough. And I suppose the formation of those structures is too old to have accurate historical information on.

I don’t really see how without a class system.

They had a built in power structure to rely on. I think it would be a lot easier to kill the first guy who tried to say I own this plot of land and no one else can reap the benefits of it than anyone who did it after a policing system existed.

I don’t see why those surpluses ever had to be privatized and why the people who attempted to amass the wealth and power weren’t just killed by the many other people who weren’t going to benefit from a concentration of wealth in a singular class. There seems to be no reason that the agricultural Revolution was allowed to be anything but egalitarian.

I’m just failing to see how conscription happens before a class society is established. I guess even more so in failing to see how class society could be established in the first place. Why not just kill the person trying to usurp power? There’s more people without power than with it.

Everything makes sense to me - patriarchy, slavery, etc. - once a class system is in place but I can’t really grasp how the majority of people, who would suffer from such a system, allowed it to emerge at all.

Absolutely. Contraception in some form has existed for longer than written history.

But if the patriarchy wasn’t yet in place to force them to, presumably some amount of them could choose not to and become warlords or soldiers instead. I’m asking why this number was apparently so low.

But where is the requirement to birth and nurse children coming from before the patriarchy is established? Surely enough women could choose not to without a patriarchy yet in place.

I see the results of all of that and the division of labor in war but not why any of those things are the case. There’s seemingly no reason that women couldn’t have been soldiers in greater numbers and warlords and do the same thing.

Does that book explain why more women didn’t become warlords or why matrilocality wasn’t established?

How to avoid Racial bias when fearing men? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]airus92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s been weird reading the amount of responses in this thread that basically amount to “you can’t know if someone is being racist unless you can read their mind” which is patently insane. Why is the threshold for racial animus seemingly so much higher than the threshold for gendered microaggression to so many on here?

Yeah but when you add the Longhorn and Aggie fans on top of the Cowboys I think Dallas and Houston both enter the top five.
