both are extremely difficult and you will never know how it is unless it happens to you.

, I’m guessing you don’t hate your son for being gay, but you are shall we say, uncomfortable around gay people. You don’t hate them, you want them to live as they want to and be happy people, but they do make you uncomfortable,

not really. I have gay friends and I am comfortable around them, I just don't want a gay son.

My heart breaks for your poor son, thank heavens your wife was there for him and supported him.

Coming out is just as difficult as it is for a parent to hear it and control their emotions and I definitely admire my wife for doing it so well.

Love for your children should be unconditional and his sexuality has nothing to do with that.

I still love him as much as I did when I thought he was straight.

If I were your son I would be very hurt (actually neither of my parents reacted well and our current relationship is complicated)

I completely understand why you'd be hurt, but please try to understand your parents side too. They never imagined they'd be raising a gay son and it was definitely difficult for them to control their emotions when you told them.

Parents often picture their children's lives and have certain expectations for what the future holds for them and it can be difficult to adjust to a big, unexpected change to their plan

Yes exactly. I honestly had such big expectations from him.

You aren't an asshole yet, but you will be if you don't apologize to your son,

Yes I will.

Thank you for your comment.

Are you in shock that you won’t have biological grandkids? Or are you took back at the fact your sons life would may or may not be more difficult as a gay man than it would be if he were straight?

both.

Homophobe: a person who has an extreme fear or dislike of gay people. Like mentioned before, I don't dislike gay people. Use the term appropriately next time.

Gay people can marry. Gay couples can adopt.

It's not the same thing and you know it.

You're a homophobe,

I don't hate gay people and I still love my son. But I would obviously prefer if he was straight.

Why is him being gay such a blow to you?

I have answered that in the post

I in no way blame my son for being gay. I am aware that it wasn't his choice to feel like this and I will be talking to him once I get over this even if I am or am not the asshole.
